Anyone else had a problem with Brimfast House?

by Disgruntled2

The plan was to travel to the Goodwood Revival last year. The bombing disrupted our plans. I cancelled a reservation with this establishment well within their stated terms (I gave them over two week’s notice, where their Website stated a full refund of our 110 pound deposit if given a week's notice). After the fact, they have altered their Website to state “no refunds available for Goodwood events.”
The ongoing problem is fully documented with copies of e-mails.
Neither Marion nor Charles of Brimfast House returned any of my many e-mails over these past months. Fraud Squad is next...
Anyone else had problems with them?

I don't think the UK Fraud Squad will be interested; this would be a civil matter, not a criminal one.

If you are in the UK you should pursue this through the civil courts; the Citizen's Advice Bureau will advise.

If you are not, then I suggest you take local legal advice as to how you should move forward.

Your problem is unfortunate but not unknown in Chichester.

Chichester and the surrounding area is overpriced and overrated. Too many people are money grabbers, and will try to con you. The people of Chichester are all too often devious and cunning, and will lie, cheat and twist to get themselves out of paying you what they owe you.

I used to live there, and frankly noting on earth would persuade me to move back. I wouldn't even visit it, such is the unpleasantness of the place.

My suggestion to you is this. If these people still owe you that money, sue them in the Small Claims Court, and when you win publish the story all over the net. Get it in the papers. Name and shame.

Rather a sweeping statement. I doubt very much whether living in (or being a native of) Chichester has anything whatsoever to do with how people behave, or how they conduct their business activities.

One cannot generalise characters or behaviours simply from place of origin, as any VT-er will tell you. Human beings are far more complicated than that.

Well I've lived there, and know what people are like there. I've lived in other places too, and have never encountered the same kind of snobbery, nastiness and grasping people anywhere except in Chichester. It's an area out on its own in these respects, believe me.

People thinking of going there have a right to learn something about a place, warts and all. There are, believe it or not, people out there who want to go to places where they won't get ripped off, or conned, or treated as if they were something someone scraped off the bottom of their shoe.

They have a right to know what to expect in Chichester. Do you disagree?

Yes, I do.

And I am fascinated to know why you joined VT today specifically (it seems) to reply to an old thread.

Travel Tips for Chichester

West Wittering Beach

by Amo87

If you fancy a trip to the beach on a nice day, West Wittering beach is the biggest and best beach in the area.
From the A27 on the south side of Chichester take the A286 signed "THE WITTERINGS" and continue for about 5 miles. At the small roundabout in Birdham village, take the right fork following the brown tourist signs to "West Wittering Beach". After 2 miles you will enter West Wittering village.

Parking is expensive (up to £7 in peak season) so it is only really worth it to go early for the day or after 3pm when it gets cheaper (£5 in peak season), and being so popular it's advisable to leave for the beach early as the one road leading there gets very busy on hot days. The huge carpark is also popular for families to have picnics by the car, and there is a nice area to play ball or buy snacks from the cafe.
