More about Ramada Plaza Gatwick

Always stay here - excellent value

by TripAdvisor Member Karen_Wickham

This is the place we always choose to stay when travelling from Gatwick. It's convenient and reasonably priced. The staff are friendly and accommodating. The rooms are reasonably sized - we always book a family room for ourselves and two teenagers. There is a health suite, with a reasonable sized pool, and the bar serves decent meals in the evening.

We've never had a bad experience here and will keep coming back.

very poor service - especially the transfers

by TripAdvisor Member akaBAS

we booked an overnight here with 2 kids prior to flying to barbados. Like other reviewers - trusted Ramada name - ho ho ho!

Children were not allowed in bar - room service never arrived and beds were uncomfortable. Heating could not be regulated and shower cold.

...however - were off on holiday so who cares - all we needed to do was get to airport and be collected afterwards

Coach late for pick up which meant we were seperated on flight

coming back - waited nearly an hour for collection - gave up in the end and got a taxi

Poorly run - staff limited English language and standards poor

AVOID!

Best hotel for gatwick airport

by TripAdvisor Member dontgetrippedoff

We arrived late on a friday night at 11.00pm.Car parking was no problem. From the minute you walked in you could tell this was a very clean new good looking hotel,We were booked in with no problems,As we had booked a tripple room these are a lot larger than the normal rooms the price is the same so take note.
£69.00p per room per night.
After dropping off our bags and setting the air con to warm we headed for the bar.
The service was great lots of large screen tvs in the bar area with sky channels.
After some drinks we asked for a bar menu the barman said the eating area closed at 10.00pm but the room service was open all night.
After ordering our meal at 12.30am it came to our room pipeing hot.
The room was great, shower boiling,no noise outside or in.
We have stayed in a lot of airport hotels around gatwick and heathrow up to twice a month this rates one of the best for location, money, and comfort.

Will definitely come here again

by TripAdvisor Member Spookycat

We stayed here twice in September, at the beginning and the end of our holiday in Fuerteventura.

On both occasions our room was spotless and comfortable, although there was no fridge in either room. I mentioned this to the young receptionist called Sarah, and she said if we had any food we could give it to her to put in the hotel's fridge or freezer.

She was really friendly and told us there was a 24 hour Tesco store only a few minutes walk away. You turn left as you leave the hotel and just stay on the main road till you see it.

The swimming pool was lovely and warm, though the shower in the ladies changing room kept fading to a trickle. Ladies might be interested to know that the toiletries in the bedroom are very good and the shampoo left my normally tangly long hair beautifully smooth and tangle free without needing any extra conditioner.

We ate in the bar on both occasions. I had the chicken and spinach wrap, which was delicious, and my husband enjoyed the sirloin steak with diane sauce. On the first occasion, his chips were the frozen kind, but a week later, he was given beautiful home made chips so maybe it was a different chef on that night, or maybe the staff were so pleased to see us again that we got special treatment. He also had 3 glasses of the red Merlot as it was so good.

I agree with other's comments about the airport bus being useless. When it finally arrived, 20 minutes late, the driver was a real comedian and gave a hilarious running comentary which cheered up all the passengers. He explained that the timetable is so tight for time, the bus can actually do the rounds of the 3 hotels to the airport only if it doesn't stop to pick up or drop anyone off. The charge was £3 per person each way, and the driver made it well worth the money even though we were annoyed at having to wait so long for the bus at Gatwick.

So we will definitely use this hotel again. We have always found that if you are friendly and give the staff a smile and chat to them, they will try to make your stay as pleasant as possible.

Great hotel

by TripAdvisor Member christineleblanc

We stayed for two nighits on our back to Canada. We arrived at the hotel about 3:00 a.m. and the porter took our bags up and would not accept a tip.

We booked through Holiday Extras and obtained an excellent rate way below what you normally see and because of the price I was worried we wouldn't get what we booked or that the reservation would be there at all. We asked for a family/triple room to ensure we had three beds as we were two sisters travelling with our mobility impaired mother (in a wheel chair as she could not walk far or stand for long). The buffet breakfast is expensive, but with 25% off via the agent booking, it was great. They cooked our eggs to order hard (they are normally runny and we don't like that) and the service in the restaurant and the bar was excellent.

The room was very clean and thing worked out great. The location is about a 20 minute walk from the Town Centre where there is a huge mall and several blocks of stores (Marks and Spencers, etc.). There is also a pool and gym area which looked very nice although we never got to use them.

Hotel staff were very nice. There is internet in the lobby for a pound for 10 minutes - enough time to send a few quick e-mails home.

We would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay again.

Just right !

by TripAdvisor Member ilovesa

My 2 daughters and I stayed here for 1 night in november en route to my sister's in Bexhill.

We had a triple room which had 3 full sized single beds.
It was lovely and clean and the staff were helpful.
The breakfast was really good.

Our only gripe was that the room was very hot and the windows do not open.
We managed to work out the air con so it wasn't as bad as it could have been.
We got a taxi there from the airport which cost £12
On the way back to the airport to pick up our car the next morning we took the hoppa bus. This was an experience not to be missed. A very funny guy was driving the bus and we got a running commentary all the way.

i would definitely stay there again if I needed to fly out or into Gatwick.

Fire Alarm at 0500

by TripAdvisor Member DavidRW

I have stayed here twice when on business in the area. If flying from Gatwick I prefer to use the hotels adjoining the terminals. The Ramada is fine and I was surprised by the negative reviews. Rooms were clean and comfortable during both stays. Staff courteous and helpful. Food good, but a little overpriced.

On my second stay the fire alarm sounded at five in the morning. Everyone assembled in the car-park for twenty minutes on a cold and foggy December morning. There was no staff supervision of guests, no checks to see if anyone was missing and no information. Fire Brigade arrived and all but one fireman sat warm in their vehicles. I was later told that there had been a false alarm due to an electrical fault. If there had been a real fire then the staff would have needed to be much more on the ball.

Better than expected

by TripAdvisor Member Haveamoan

Stayed here for one night before flying. It was exactly as we expected. Clean, comfortable, the facilities were as described. The room was large enough for 2 adults and 2 young kids. The pool etc was fine. The evening meal in the restaurant was delicious, not particuarly pricey. Breakfast was buffet style, as much as you could eat. We had a restaurant discount with the company we booked with. The Bus was a bit late, took longer than stated but as long as you leave enough time it doesn't matter.

Comfortable hotel

by TripAdvisor Member loopylady

Stayed here for 3 nights at the end of October 2006. The hotel was booked for us by relatives because it was accessible to London airports and we were travelling out of the country soon after.

We had a lovely, spacious room with a great view of the gardens nearby and everything in the room was first rate.

The only downside to staying here is the lack of transport links if you don't have a car. There is a railway station about 15 mins walk away but the hotel is situated just of the motorway in Crawley.

It is a good choice for an airport stopover or a spa weekend etc where you don't need to venture out of the hotel.

Good one nighter

by TripAdvisor Member lesleyd

Better than expected but 3+ rather than 4 star. Small but adequate pool and gym, good meal in Arts restaurant. Clean throughout. Would use again.
