Travel Tips for Bradford

Enjoy a foreign language

by davidcross

Bradford's 'Circle for Foreign Languages' is unique in England. it has existed for over 100 years, owns its own building and lets out part. With its property income it manages to keep members' subs to £10 per annum [no typos here!!] Tea, coffee or cold drinks in the interval cast 10p a cup.

Spanish, Italian, French and German Sections each have their own evening of the week. I go to the Spanish Section and we have alternate weeks of conversation iwth those involving an internal or external speaker, often a native Spanish speaker.

The Centre is well equipped and has a library of books for each of its languages. The phone number is that of the Secretary, Sally Clegg.

Address: 10 Eldon Place - off Manningham Lane.

Corfu

by Tonynew

"SIDARI ,CANAL DE AMOUR"

This was our 3rd visit to Corfu and once again enjoyed every minute of it espeacialy the Mythos greek lager
This time we stayed out of the center of Sidari in the Canal De Amour area only 10 minutes walk into Sidari but nice and quiete on a night so you have the best of both worlds
Just up the road from our appartments is a small restaurant called Damias Yard the food is excellent and cheap we ate there many times and enjoyed every single meal
(not that i'm a greedy guts) lol
across the road from Damias is a footpath that takes you to a secluded beach where you can swim out to the rock formations that make up the canal de amour
The sea here is warm so we spent a good while swimming and diving off of the rock formations well worth a visit
Further up the road from Damias is Peraloudes known as sunset bay anyone who has watched the sun go down here wiil know how spectacular it is and well worth a visit i have posted some pics in the photo section of the sunset at Peraloudes and the Rock formations on the Canal De Amour
Sidari itself is a lovely place plenty of tavernas restaurants bars and shops something for everyone really
One thing we always do is hire a scooter ,i know the travel reps dont advise it but we really enjoy getting out and about !!!!!
One tip though be very carfull the rule of thumb seems to be on the road is THE BIGGER YOU ARE YOU HAVE THE RIGHT OF WAY !!!!!
so once again be very carefull riding a scooter
I also have been riding
motorcycles for 30 years and raced at international level so have plenty of experience
Another place we like is San Steffanos a few miles further along the road from Sidari its beach is magnificent although San Steff isnt as big or bustling as Sidari we love the place
A trip to Corfu town is well worth it also plenty of shops and small winding streets the old and new castle plenty to see and do NB it is illegal to ride into Corfu town with no helmet on
Another nice ride or drive out is along the north coast road from Gouvia to Dassia, Ipsos , Kassiopi,Kalami, Rhoda then back into Sidari to the apparts for a shower then out for a Meal and a few glasses of Mythos
Hope you enjoy Corfu if you go there we certainly did and will be going back in the not too distant future !!!!!!!!
Tony

"Damias Yard"

Damias yard restaurant great food great wine great company and as for Damia herself an absolutley brilliant person

"Sunset at Peraloudes"

As i Mentioned in chapter 1 well worth a visit also a taverna at the top of the cliff with a viewing point

"Kassioppi"

The harbour at Kassioppi lovely place finished up here the 1st time we went to Corfu on a boat BBQ from Ipsos another trip not to be missed as much food and wine as you want
And by the way hope you like shaving foam because the chances are your gonna get blathered in the stuff from the crew lol

"Tony and his Mythos"

What more can a man ask for after a long hot day in the sun
a nice cold glass of Greek Mythos Lager :-)
Should rephrase that "a dozen bottles of mythos " cheers down the hatch!!!!!!

"Peraloudes"

This photo taken from bottom of the cliff looking the opposite way to the sunset ,so east i guess lol
Its at the top of these cliffs the viewing point is dont go on the platform if you dont like heights or suffer from vertigo lol

"Morning glory"

These flowers grow all over the island and are a very impresive site when covering walls yard after yard

"Rock formations"

Another photo of the rock formations at canal de amour
It looks a fair way out but can swim to it easily the water is quite shally for a lot of the way out then deepens quickly the last 50 or so yards to the rock but if you wanna dive from you gotta swim to it !!!!
