Rough Hey Wood Campsite: Camping in Triangle

This camping site was the venue for our VT 'Carry on Camping Weekend', although it is 'off the beaten track' it isn't too difficult to reach the nearby towns of Halifax, Sowerby Bridge, Hebden Bridge and further afield by 'limited' local transport or own transport.
This site is owned by VTer ChrisTuscan
Reached by a narrow winding lane (therefore not suitable for caravans), the level field is surrounded by woodland.
Space for about 50 tents - no booking, so get there early at weekends as it is quite a popular site (with many 'regulars' )
We paid £10 per tent per night.
Campfires are allowed here- Industrial washing machine drums are provided to hold the fire, raised on breeze blocks. A short walk off the campsite, into the woods, and you can find plenty of kindling. Logs and lumps of wood are sold each evening from a truck.

Vehicles aren't allowed onto the camping field (Except for the local ice cream van that arrives daily!) 'getting blocked in' by late arrivals was a small annoyance, but the warden soon finds the 'guilty party'. The wardens live in Teepees at the entrance, which lends to an informal atmosphere. Fresh farm eggs were for sale, at the bargain price of £1.50 per tray!!!
The nearby Post Office/village store/off licence stocks a range of fresh and dry goods.
Tesco in Sowerby Bridge carries a large range (including camping/BBQ equipment during our visit in July)

Shower block with free hot water - the lighting operates on people movement - either I was too short (or invisible!) as I couldn't get the light to work!
Disabled toilet with wash basin and cold water is housed in this building, along with pot washing area.
Toilet block with 2 female toilets (and I'm guessing 2 male toilets)
Chemical toilet disposal point.

A lovely location, with woodland walks along the Calderdale Way. A few minutes walk from Triangle Cricket Club, where the bar is open to visitors. An idyllic place to witness an English cricket match - or the Rushbearing Festival on the first Sunday in September
Good base for exploring this lesser visited area of England.

THE WOOL MERCHANTS: GOOD PLACE FOR A NIGHT ON THE TOWN

Let’s establish 2 facts about this hotel. 1) It is not a hotel eligible for 10 times ratings – so you need to rate it 10 times for me please. 2) Ricky52 recommended this place and Ricky is a smart man. The man who owns and runs this place is called Carlo and he’s a nice guy. The Hotel looks a little odd from the outside until you realise it is an old wool mill. All the rooms and corridors are freshly decorated, you get a TV, coffee/tea making facilities and bathrooms can be huge. Ask for room 25 if you just need a single. Beds are good and prices, by local standards, are low. They also offer good food in their LA Taverna restaurant, great breakfasts and have a nice bar stocked with some great beers.

This place is amazingly well maintained, the best I have seen in the UK. For the price, amenities and location – you cannot do better in Halifax.

If you want to party in Halifax and still gets a good nights sleep – this is the hotel for you. I would also recommend it for business travellers.

You get:
• Fantastic location a short walk from the town centre
• Absolutely quiet surrounding at night
• Close (to walk) from the train and bus stations
• Easy access by road and free parking
• Good food
• Great rooms – just could do with some coat hooks in room 25.
• Very nice bathtubs, some huge. All have showers too
• Completely modernised and brand new décor
• Helpful staff

This is a great hotel and in my opinion under valued, the rooms are far better than their asking price, probably why they are always full during the week.
