Travel Tips for Leeds

Watch Leeds play at Elland Road!

by Travel_Fred

Don't miss out if you get the chance to watch Leeds United play a home-game. The tension is high and right now, the tickets are affordable due to failing results :) We got to have seats right behind Dennis Wise's coaching box. This is pretty much a white-snip-area, even though I showed up in a home-shirt :) PS: The picture is taken before the match:p

It can be a bit tricky to get a cab for the ride back to the city after the game, but don't worry - there's both a McDonald's restaurant and a pub close by in case it rains. Bring good mood and a betting slip that says HOME WIN.

CURRY AND MORE

by alyf1961 about EAST

East is a very elegant restaurant in Pudsey, Leeds. The food is mainly Indian but there are a few Italian dishes on the menu. East has three bars, one with a piano. The décor is glass and chrome. I ordered lasagne; it came with potatoes and vegetables, which was unusual but delicious.
The main courses are around £7 - £8

River Aire - former harbour area

by Airpunk

The fomer harbour area is near to the central station. Today, many buildings on both sides of the river Aire were refurbished and some new ones were contructed. It is a stylish living area as well as a new business center, just a few minutes from the heart of the city. The most outstanding example is "The Calls", a street where old warehouses were turned into living houses, bars and hotels. Many buidlings are still awaiting refurbishing, so that you get a good contrast between new, old and really old.

PARKINSON BUILDING

by alyf1961

The building, which is the face of Leeds University, was designed by T.A. Lodge. Work started on the building in 1938 but due to the outbreak of World War II work had to be halted and it wasn't finished until 1951. It was opened on 9th November 1951 by HRH the Princess Royal.
Frank Parkinson, who was chairman of Compton and Parkinson Company, bequeathed £200,000 towards the building of this impressive building. The building is now a grade II listed building.
