Accomodation in Leeds

by Legia

I asked you about travel from Gatwick airport to Leeds (thanks for replies!) and now I have few questions about accomodation in this city.
Im looking for a quite cheap place(hotel, hostel or sth like that) with quite good standard(quite good standard for me: bathroom,tv maybe and clean place). I can't find good hotels via internet and when I find there is nothing about costs !
Could you tell me sth(mayby good sites) about accomodatnion in Leeds( Do you count everything per week? ), I'll be satisfacted if my weekly payment for hotel will be under 60 pounds per week. Thanks!

Hi, I don't know so much about Leeds but I've booked a lot of hostels/B&Bs/hotels in the UK over the years. The cheapest I booked was a hostel, shared bathroom for 20 GBP . So I'd be very surprised if you found a place with a private bathroom, TV for 60 GBP a week. If you made that per day, you'd have no problems.
However, if such a place exists, I'd be very interested myself. Maybe someone from Leeds will answer.
Good luck.
Christine

Sorry, but I think it's extremely unlikely you'll find anything so cheap (£60 per week is very cheap even for room only). If you did, it would most likely be the sort of hotel or hostel you would not feel happy about staying in (for the homeless, perhaps, or ex-prisoners). You might be (very) lucky and get a room as a lodger in a private house for that sort of money (possibly in student accommodation), but you will probably have to be in Leeds to find the adverts. I can only suggest you google the UK pages (on www.google.co.uk) for leeds + accommodation.....hotel sites will give you a per person per night price. I don't know how long you intend to stay, but I think you may have to reconsider your accommodation budget. Good luck!

Even homestay accommodation with all meals included would be more expensive than that.

Travel Tips for Leeds

LEEDS LIGHTS

by alyf1961

Every year at the end of November, Leeds city council celebrates the turning on of Leeds Christmas lights.
A local radio station set up a stage on the Headrow and guests entertain the crowds before the countdown. Past guests at the show have been girls aloud, Shane ward, Rachel Stevens, Mcfly, Alesha Dixon, Simon Webb and Shane ward. the show is also attended by famous local celebrities like Jane Tomlinson and Chris Moyles
The turning on of the lights is followed by a firework display.

A place to chill with your friends

by traceyspacey about The Elbow room

The Elbow rooms is a combination of a pool hall, with a club and a bar. The music is a mixture of indie, Hip Hop and Drum and base. There is a relaxed feeling to inside. Some unusual beers on offer, not as many as other places. Private room hire is available. If you are a smoker, warning it's a bit of trek back outside also if you go outside just before 10pm, make sure that you get your hand stamped so you can get back in okay without having to pay. I don't know how much they charge, sorry. I do know that they charge £6-£9 per hour of pool, depending upon what time you are there. Bit expensive.

DJ's are on Friday and Saturday nights. Check out the posters on the walls for upcoming events in the area. No dress code, but you won't get in if you are wearing chav clothes (tracksuit). Trainers are fine.

Two Four One Pizza, Pasta & Sandwiches!

by spidermiss about Trio Bar and Grill

I highly recommend Trio Bar and Grill for lunch where you can get two for one when you order pizza, pasta and sandwiches! They do other dishes including starters, salads and grills.

I went there with my work colleagues for our Christmas lunch in December 2010 and it was pleasant enjoying the food in such a decor setting. I order a Pesto Linguini with has linguini with basil pesto, baby spinich and courgettes in a cream sauce and presented with sun-blushed tomatoes, rocket and parmesan. The dish was delicious and I highly recommend this!

Temple Newsam Park (Estate & Grounds)

by spidermiss

It's a perfect place for everyone to do something or simply take a picnic and relax. There is The Farm where you can see the farm animals and rare breeds. The Estate itself covers over 1500 acres of grounds including gardens, woodlands and lakes and designed by Capability Brown, a famous 18th Century landscape designer. In the summer a number of events are held in the park including the yearly "Opera in the Park" and "Party in the Park" and various fairs.

Go Shopping at the Corn...

by Diosa

Go Shopping at the Corn Exchange!
A very odd combination of an old victorian corn exchange building intermingled with local designer fashion, music shops, the condom shop (i hope that's still there!!!) and lots of other little gems. In the basement is a bar and a small but very good cafe/restaurant.. good place to pick up some unique clothes/gifts without paying a fortune! (although you may get your fortune read if one of the psychic's has ventured out!)
