Safety
by RonManager
Hi all
I'll be in Leeds (25-28 May) and was wondering which areas are 'dubious' and should be avoided; I tried Googling but without much success!
Thanks!

The city centre is OK - the only areas to avoid are Seacroft and some south Leeds suburbs such as Belle Isle. I really cannot think you need to go anywhere like that. I don't much like Leeds (sorry Alyson if you read this) - its very much a working city and the shopping and theatre is good but as a tourist there is not a lot there. The Royal Armories is good according to my son as is the St James hospital museum. I only ever go there for work reasons. However its strength is what is just outside - Haworth, Knaresborough, Ilkley, Skipton etc.
Are you going for a short break?

Hi Britannia - thanks for your reply. I'm going for a few days' leave - I plan to do a couple of days' sightseeing in Leeds itself - Thackray Museum, Armouries, City Museum etc, and combine this with walking in the Pennines or Ilkley Moor...
Travel Tips for Leeds
You never know what the weather might do next
by traceyspacey
I see quite a few questions on the forums regarding the weather in the UK, We don't seem to have seasons as such. I am sure that we did when I was a child, but is that because I can only remember the sunny days or have the seasons changed. I am writing this on the 31st July, you think that it would be sunny. No. it is raining. At least the humidity has come down.
My boyfriend tried sitting outside one of the bars near us on Tuesday afternoon. Glorious sunshine, then rain and then blue sky and sunshine, then rain followed by more sunshine. We gave up and went home.
Be prepared, at the very least carry an umbrella. And/or wait around for a while under shelter. We do get sunny days sometimes.

Bolton Abbey, train, village and Devonshire Arms... Walk throught the surrounding grounds of the abbey, house and village along by the stream.. another great example of the beauty of Yorshire.. if you get chance.. eat at the Devonshire Arms restaurant or bistro.. yuuuuummy.. :) Also situated on the main road between Harrogate and Skipton.. the skipton bus stops here... well worth a day out!
Leeds is an important rail...
by SusanneBeck
Leeds is an important rail travel centre and Leeds City Station, which is within the central business area, has the highest number of passengers of any station outside central London. Leeds is the hub of the local West Yorkshire rail network which contains 65 local Metro Train stations. The majority of these have direct services to Leeds. About 7,000 people arrive at the City Station in the morning peak period.
CHICKEN, CHICKEN AND MORE CHICKEN
by alyf1961 about NANDO'S
The food at Nando’s is delicious but if there is one criticism it is that, there is not a lot of choice if you do not like chicken. When I go to Nando’s I order medium-spiced chicken, which isn’t too hot. They also do hot and extra hot.
Leeds City Square & Former Post Office
by spidermiss
Leeds City Square was created in 1899 in front of the old Post Office (now houses offices, hotel and restaurants). The City Square was given statues of famous local people including Joseph Priestley and Dr Walter Hook. The main statue is of the Black Prince on a horse, a bronze statue and designed by Thomas brock and is place in the centre front of the square. There are also statues of nympths and lighting which were designed by Alfred Drury, a local sculptur. The City Square was refurbished at the beginning of the 21st Century to address the city's traffic issues. Additions and editions were added and implemented such as repositoning of the balustrades and statues and adding new fountains that blends in the City Square's decor and space.
The Queens Hotel and the railway station is south of the square; the east of the square is the Park Plaza Hotel (formerly The Royal Exchange building which housed offices); and the north faces One City Square and One Park Row Office blocks and Park Row leads towards The Light Leisure Complex, The Town Hall and Millennium Square.
