OUR 4TH VISIT
My husband and I have just returned from a two night break at the Radisson, Leeds to celebrate our wedding Anniversary and Valentines Day.
This is our fourth visit to the hotel, that speaks for itself, we have no compalints what so ever.
We have stayed in all three themed rooms, if we have to make a choice we would say the Italian Style or Art Decor overlooking Cookridge Street is our favourite choice. However, on all four ocassions that we have stayed at this hotel our room has been perfect. We find they are well decorated, very clean - in particular the bathroom and have everything we could wish for. However, we always stay in a business class room and have only received the turn-down service once. We mentioned that we were celebrating our Anniversary when making our booking - when we got to our room there was a nice bottle of red wine, complimentary of the hotel, which was a really nice touch.
The staff are all most friendly and professional. We asked for directions for a location outside of Leeds, Reception printed us directions from the internet no problem.
The "Lounge" Bar area is also a lovely place to relax, the free standing fire in the middle of the room is amazing. The leather sofas really do give you the feeling that you are sitting in your own lounge at home! The bar meals may be expensive but they are large portions. The breakfast is also well recommended - it's a self serve buffet with just about everything possible. One down-side, the tables are a little too close together at breakfast, a little more privacy would be nice!
The location of the hotel couldn't be better. There is a wonderful choice of bars/restaurants on the doorstep, something to please everyone. We always include a visit to Browns restaurant which is right next door to the hotel, but we have sampled the many other eating places in the vicinity and all are fine.
One of the main draws for us to Leeds is the excellent shopping. It really is a shoppers paradise. The hotel is walking distance from the main shopping area, you don't have to walk far to reach the first shop.
The Light offers brilliant secure parking, still, we were shocked when we were hit with a discounted rate of £30 for two nights parking.
Overall, we cannot fault the Radisson and will continue to stay there when ever we vist Leeds.
Stayed for just one night mid week the parking is a rip off £25 for one night. the hotel was very nice we had a buisness class room. although for what i could see the standard rooms are just as nice. you might ask yourself is it worth the extra money for the use of bathrobes, movie channels , and inclusive breakfast. well i thought so, my partner did not (you cant please everybody)although if you are on the large side like me (38"wast) the robes are a little small, and the slippers are also not for big feet (size 11).Our room was excelent right on the corner of the hotel so we had views from two winndows. air con no problem, no noise from the street's below. The staff i found to be more than helpful with any questions about the local area, they are kind understanding and willing to resolve any problem you have with the hotel in a proffesional way. we only had one cup one coffee and one tea in our room this was resolved right away without any questions or fuss. the hotel is right in the light building so you dont have to go far to start shopping.
MUST TELL YOU IF YOU WANT A VERY VERY NICE CURRY IN A FIRST CLASS CURRY HOUSE GO TO AKBAR'S THE GRAND ON GREEK STREET. IT WONT BREAK THE BANK THE SERVICE IS FANTASTIC AND THE FOOD IS WONDERFUL.
breakfast in the hotel was very nice although not one of the best environments to start the day. sure it was clean and relaxing but you always feel that you are eating in the reception.
Great Hotel Great Location but....
My boyfriend and i stayed here for one night in Dec 05 for a special occasion. The hotel is inside a shopping centre called The Light which is small but very modern and has several shops restaurants a cinema and a health spa!
On checking in i was asked for a £50 deposit off my banks debit card in case i used the mini bar and as a general deposit i guess which i paid and this was credited back into my account on checking out but this was annoying and i've never known this at any other hotels. As it was near christmas i hadnt budgeted for this either.
This hotel gave me an airline discount of £67 prpn instead of £127 prpn. This made us choose this hotel over the malmaison. Also the choice of themed rooms made it appeal even more.
We chose a Hi Tech room on arrival and although the decor was really modern (with exception to the horrible yellow curtain drapes) and the bathroom was fitted to a very high standard with lovely fixtures and fittings and even a speaker in the ceiling so you could listen to the tele whilst in the shower etc, the room was small and pokey.
The double bed was comfortable but was so close to the wall's it was impossible to walk around it not great at 4 0 clock in the morning when my boyfriend had to climb over me to go to the bathroom!
The room was also dusty and missing some things such as an ashtray (smoking room!) No wonder there was cigarette burns in the curtains!
General wear and tear such as big chunks out of the wooden surrounds, such as the tele stand and bedside tables. Which to be fair is un-avoidable.
But the white stains on the chair behind the desk in the room which could only be described as a male substance was disgusting and certainly could be changed with ease and this for a 4 star hotel! Not nice really!
But i must admit it is a nice hotel the security is excellent you have to insert your room card to operate the lifts and even the main doors on an evening! I only mentioned the problem we had with the heating or lack of it, to the receptionist as i hate complaining and have since sent them an email with this info in so hopefully that chair can be removed! HaHa!
I must admit though i would have been really annoyed if i had paid £127.00 prpn full price for this room even though it was well located and central the most important thing to me is the room and at the end of the day thats why i chose to stay here and it just didnt impress us unfortunantly!
Great Hotel for New Years Eve
My boyfriend and I stayed here for NYE 2005/6. For a reasonable price, we got a great room, 4 course dinner, live band and the added bonus of watching the Millennium Square fireworks from inside the hotel, in the warm and not out in the rain, as well as breakfast in the morning.
The live band were great, and the food was excellent in their restaurant.
The staff were friendly and very helpful. The room was well appointed, clean and as you'd expect a 4* room to be. The room was also very quiet, which is great given its in the centre of the city. The power shower was lovely the next morning, as was breakfast in bed, for only £3 extra, well worth it!
Whether staying here on business or for leisure, it's well worth the little extra than other Leeds hotels, not least for it's great location.
Really Nice Hotel
A large group of us stayed in the Radisson for one night in June. The hotel staff were friendly and very helpful and the hotel itself was clean and modern. The location of the hotel is great and only 5 minutes walk from the station. I would definately recommend this hotel and would stay there again on my next trip to Leeds.
The only tip I have is to make your reservations directly with the hotel as the Central Reservation line messed up my bookings.
