Rough Hey Campsite is a 2.5 acre field with some room for small campervans and 50 pitches for tents. It was the site of the VT Carry On Camping weekend 24th to 26th June 2011.
The site is in 100 acres of woodland and has a river running down one side and a disused railway line on the other which has been made into a footpath called the Calderdale way which cuts through the woods from Sowerby Bridge to Ripponden.
Campfires must be raised above the ground and so old washing machine drums are provided along with some concrete blocks to keep the grass from being burnt.
There are 2 male toilets and 3 female ones and a new shower block with 3 hot showers and 2 washing up sinks.
We had a great time which was not spoilt at all by the heavy rain all Friday night or the mud that then appeared wherever we walked.
A few reviews complain about dogs running around and leaving their muck all over but although there were some dogs they were well behaved and i did not see any dog dirt. There was some noise from kids running around and from a cricket game in the middle of the field which did get a bit annoying at one point but it was not really to bad.
Fires are allowed as long as they are off the ground and fire pits (old washing machine drums) are provided, you can buy fire wood at £5 per bag from the site or from the nearby Post office/ shop.
£10 per night per Tent
