Oasis Leisure centre
The Oasis Leisure Centre (opened in l976 by his Worship the Mayor, and later visited by Her Royal Highness The Princess Ann )(The Princess Royal) is one of a few leisure centres in the region.
The main pool here is a fun pool. There are sometimes three lanes in the deeper end, for serious swimmers, and the water goes from a few inches to over 6ft. There are plants around, a huge domed roof, which gives the pool area a fun theme. There is also a small childrens pool, and a new additions are a "pirates" boat for children, and the domebuster water slides. By the pool area there are places to sit at tables,with three huge panes of glass looking to the outside. See the picture to see the windows from the outside.
As well as the pool there are squash, and badminton courts , an ice rink, indoor bowls, gym, a couple of pool tables, Roller Dance Club, Kick boxing, football teams (27) in fact loads of activities to keep families amused.
some facts about the pool areas:-
The pools domed roof is made up of 540 glass panels. Waves are activated every 20 minutes, followed by the water cannon. Pool water temp. is maintained at 30deg. C.
The domebuster water slides start from the Launch Tower. The tower is 13 metres high and has 60 steps.Rides finish in the Splash Tank which is 1.1 metres deep.
The Sidewinder - ideal for the first time rider and suitable for children. Young children may ride on the same matas parents or guardians. Ride time is 15 - 20 seconds.
The Great White - a high speed ride full of surprises. Ride time is 12 - 18 seconds.
The Screamer - the ultimate in nerve tingling aqua excitement. - They say you have been warned. The ride is 10 - 14 seconds. (I have not been on any of them)
The combined main and teaching pool has 940 cu. metres or nearly 1,000,000 litres of pool water, which is tested 4 times a day and backwashed weekly.
