Swindon and the railway
Swindon used to be synonymous withe steam trains and the Great Western Railway specifically.
It lies in the heart of Wiltshire, and is a larger town than I imagined.
Outside west Swindon is the railway museum.
Beside the Museum, making use of the railway workshops is the Great Western Designer Retail Outlet. The old workshops now house some of the better known designer shops like Burberry, Hilfinger, Pink, Aquascutam,Next, Alexon.
There are also shops for home designers, books, specialist teas, Ice cream, toiletries and Hamleys for toys, luggage, shoes etc.
The goods are sold at 50-75% off the high street shop prices
There is also a foodcourt with the usual McDonalds and KFC. For the more health conscious there is a Fat Jackets with baked potatoes ,or Asian or Italian food.
