The Isles: Excellent B&B in Fintry, Scotland

The Isles is an excellent bed & breakfast in Fintry. A lovely, modern villa built to match the surrounding traditional homes with great views overlooking hillside farmland. You have the choice of two rooms - we had both for two nights. The first is a double bedroom facing the front of the villa - the road is very quiet so no traffic to keep you awake if you like open windows for fresh country air! The second is a family room with one double bed and one single bed, facing the rear of the villa out over the fields towards the hills, again very quiet - but if you have insomnia you can even count real sheep if you need to, there are plenty in the surrounding fields! Both rooms are decorated in a clean, bright, crisp colours with lovely finishing touches, plenty hanging and drawer space, comfy chair and small TV with local channels (if you really can't live without satellite, the local hotel is a two min walk away) You can make yourself a warm cup of tea or coffee in your room after a brisk walk in the evening too! Both rooms have a modern en suite shower room - plenty of hot water, good shower power too! Breakfast is served in the dining room, beautiful even in Sept when the sun comes in....hearty helpings ready to set you off for exploring the area! I would definitely go back to the Isles - great place to stay!

Not only is the accommodation excellent, but Kirsty is a lovely host with a real talent for watercolours. You can see her art around her home, and also in the local gallery in Killearn.

Culcreuch Castle: Culcreuch Castle

About a 30 minute drive from Stirling is Culcreuch Castle, a comfortable place to stay. There are 10 rooms, including a room in the stables (where I stayed). The stable room probably wasn't as nice as the rooms in the main part of the castle. The grounds are beautiful- I enjoyed a summer evening walk around there. Can't tell you about the restaurant, but I did have a pint and enjoyed talking to the friendly bartender (she gave me some good tips on Glasgow- where I was heading next).
