Eating out

by TripAdvisor Member davie8

As a local i am delighted that the Craiglynne Hotel is being brought back to its former glory. My husband and I decided to try the new menus after receiving a promotional offer. We found the food most enjoyable and delightful service with smiling happy staff. The menus have something for everyone and we will definetly be recommending the Craiglynne to our friends. It was a lovely meal and will certainly be comeing back.

Loved it all

by TripAdvisor Member JERS87

We stayed at the Craiglynne hotel for 2 nights dinner bed & breakfast on friday 16th May. The hotel has gone through a major refurbishment and looks amazing, the reception staff were very efficent and obliging, service with a smile through-out the hotel nothing was too much trouble. We dined of both menus and found the food to be very enjoyable and with plenty to choose from, the bedrooms were of a high standard and tastefully decorated, the hotel has lovely gardens with a pond and a lovely herb garden. Grantown on spey its self we found to have plenty to do and the surrounding areas, I cant wait to go back in the autumn and I would recommend to all .

better than expected

We stayed here while on an organised train/coach holiday. The hotel has undergone a great deal of refurbishment, and infact is not completed as yet, no curtains/pictures in public areas. The reception area is lovely, bright, clean and tastefully decorated. Our bedroom was freshly painted with a firm clean bed, a brand new shower in the (over heated) bathroom. The staff on the whole were helpful although waiting staff should realise the importance of "service with a smile". The food was edible but uninspiring. The chef would appear to cook as though it is still 1970! A full Scottish breakfast, a slice of bacon, a tastless chipolata sausage, fried egg, half a tomato and half a slice of fried bread was disapointing to say the least. The evening meal meat/fish/poultry wise was okay but all the vegetables appeared tired/re-heated and not worth eating. Although on the Dessert menu every evening the speciallity "Cloutie Dumpling" was always unavailable. Overall though fairly good value for money.

Enjoyed the location

by TripAdvisor Member tradcook

Room was spacious with comfortable bed and tartan touches on curtains and bedcover. The en-suite was basic but clean. The restaurant was positioned with a good view, and the food was good. The bar and lounge were very relaxing. We travelled with a group on a tour, and stayed for 3 nights. There were some lovely walks nearby.

Great Stay

by TripAdvisor Member pumarugby

Just came back from a school tour and stayed here with a group of 53. As the leader of the group I am always concerned about how the members of the group are treated. I was very pleased with the the staff as they went out of their way to make our group happy. The manager was especially helpful with the group leaders. The meals we had were quite good and everyone enjoyed thier stay.

Not a pleasant experience !

by TripAdvisor Member pete022

Terrible! We stayed for 5 nights and for two of them we were accomodated in a double room that was obviously once a single,as I had to climb across the bed to get to my side as it was against the wall! Plus the washbasin was in the room completely separate from the bathroom! I thought I had been transported back to a post war B@B. The room number was 106. Reception did not seem too interested but we persisted and finally got re roomed after two nights discomfort.
Food was mediocre and the full scottish breakfast was lacking a few items like mushrooms baked beans black pudding etc. You can visualise what was left! finally a delegation went to see the manager but it was a pointless operation. We really enjoyed our first visit to Scotland pity about the hotel! PETE.

Updated, very good and it shows

Lovely location, lot of work done and high standard achieved. Friendly, helpful staff and nice atmosphere throughout. Now needs the duty manager 'on the ground' to overcome silly mistakes, e.g. same bedsheets 8 days, variable restaurant service from brilliant to slow. Overall would come again and would recommend to anyone.

Pleasant hotel and surroundings

by TripAdvisor Member sammac62

Very polite and friendly staff and lovely surroundings. Food was very good except for the cooked breakfast on the last morning which was inedible. Scrambled eggs were a mixture of grey and white so I wasn't taking any chances and went for a bacon roll up in the village. My husband's cooked breakfast was certainly that! cooked to chargilled, think either the chef had a hangover or was in a bad mood because the day before it was perfect! The room was adequate though very noisy. There was a fire door outside our room which squeaked very loudly everytime someone opened it. We did ask if they could oil it or something but unfortunately nothing was done so that kept us awake at night and woke us early! Other than that it was lovely and we would return again
