More about Gisborough Hall
We absolutely loved our stay at the Gisborough Hall Hotel. It is located in the North Yorkshire England countryside. Gisborough is
a 150 year old country manor house. The hotel exterior is covered with English ivy and the gardens are just beautiful.
We stayed in Miss Bruce's room in the "old part" of the hotel. We had a wonderful view from our room. There was a claw foot tub in the bedroom at the foot of our bed!. There was also a very nice bathroom with shower which was spotless. Extras included a heated towel rack, bathrobes, ironing board, and much more.
We really enjoyed our meal in the dining room which included roast sirloin of beef and yorkshire pudding. The creme brulee as well as the sticky toffee pudding for dessert were scrumptious. Our service was excellent.
The entire hotel was as nice as our room and included beautiful antiques.
This was the most romantic hotel I have every stayed in and would highly recommend it to everyone!!
an oasis of calm
I could write so much about this place but i will keep it short and simple. Beautiful building and setting. Such a lovely relaxing atmosphere , such friendly , helpful yet very professional staff , nothing was to much trouble. Breakfast will keep you going all day. Its location is also ideal for visiting the nearby coastline, such places as Staithes, Runswick Bay etc . We will return as soon as possible.
We were invited to a silver wedding celebration here and chose to stay over to avoid a late drive home. I booked directly with hotel and got a king room for £100 B&B.
We stayed in room 110 in the Woodlands Wing. The room was very quiet and overlooked trees and a corner of the car park. The room itself was lovely, well decorated and with plenty of hanging space if you're there for a longer stay. The bathroom was quite large with separate shower, which itself was great - good pressure and lots of hot water. Whilst I was unpacking I realised I'd left my toothpaste at home and called reception, who arranged for housekeeping to come with some within 5 minutes. The bed was very comfortable and traditionally made with sheets and blankets.
At the party we had canapes followed by a 3 course meal and the food was of a very high standard - beautifully presented and the wait staff were all very polite and friendly. (I would not hesitate to recommend this place for a wedding as the function room we had was perfect and the grounds are just wonderful for pictures)
In the morning we went into the restaurant for breakfast. The morning staff could not do enough for you and there was plenty of choice - loads of fresh fruit, cereals, breads & pastries, cold meats & cheese and any number of cooked options from kippers to a full english.
First Class Hotel
We had a most enjoyable stay at this superbly well located hotel and would certainly stay again. The hotel and grounds were most impressive and car parking was easy and accessable.Staff were most helpful. Our dinner in the evening was excellent and our breakfast was first class. All in all a first class hotel, which was good value for money and one which I would recommend to anyone.
Stayed in Room 212 in Woodland wing - excelent room, with large comfortable bed, superb bathroom etc and pleasant ambience. no aircon in rooms - not a problem in November but would be for me in June-August! Rest of hotel magnificent, although the head honcho at breakfast sees himself as a 'character' awaiting discovery by reality TV and strays over the line from attentive to being the cabaret..!
Lovely grounds, comfoirtable, was there on business but would love to return subject to deals available.
Excellent for a weekend break
Ideal location as we are from London and we were meeting up with some friends from Glasgow. We have stayed at Macdonalds hotels before and have always been pleased with the value for money offered and quality of food and service. We booked this direct and got a good deal at £268 per couple for D,B & B for 2 nights. Check in was efficient and cheerful and we were given detailed directions to our room. As we were on a cheapy we had a room at the back which was quite a walk from reception. The hotel is large and we were in the annex although you would not be aware of this. The corridors were very warm which was good as it was a chilly weekend. The room was very cosy and unusually had a split level. On a raised deck there was a table and chairs under the velux window. The bathroom was well appointed although we did have some minor problems with the loose handle on the shower screen door and the inside handle on the bathroom doory. All meals were served in the extremely comfortable dining room. Choice of dishes for dinner was good and the food was well presented with a modern twist. Although portions were not large they were well balanced and enjoyable. Breakfast was in the same dining room with a varied selection ranging from Smoked haddock to full Yorkshire. The cereals and fruit along with pastries and cold meats were available on a buffet selection. The only problem we had was with the toast which we had to send back to be browned as it was just warmed bread. The staff in the restaurant, bar and all those that we came across during our stay were all friendly, courteous and anxious to be of help. The location of the hotel is just to the north of the Yorkshire Moors and an excellent location for walking the moors. Whitby is about half an hour away by car.
Loved the hotel
Absolutely wonderful hotel. Felt very welcome and special. It would be great place for a wedding or any other celebration. Food excellent, service outstanding. Room also excellent standard. Nothing was too much trouble.
However, the area itself was a bit limited in terms of what to see/do. Great for ramblers and north york moors enthusiasts. Hotel great for relaxation - alhtough no gym/pool (which wasn't a problem for us) though and not many places to 'splash cash' so once you've paid for the hotel there shouldn't be too much else!
Easy to pretend that you are Lord or Lady of the manor during your stay!
Lovely building great staff but a little tired now
The vista as you arrive at Gisborough is truly grand. A lovely location with great views. The staff on the front desk could not be more helpful and Anthony the part time bell boy was a delight to talk to about his role in the hotel. Having said that, we were disappointed
as the point of coming to such a hotel just after Christmas was to experience the ambience of a hotel such as this. But we could not get a dining reservation. We could have been fitted in at 9pm but there seemed no preference for residents. So if you want to eat at the hotel
you must book a table as you reserve your room. We did not know this. The breakfast room seemed also to have reserved tables which we had no idea was necessary so ended up in the overspill room with a large party booking with the inevitable poorly behaved children playing under the tables.
The heritage rooms were not available so we were in the extended part of the hotel. The rooms are large and the bathrooms well appointed. But the rooms are very tired and in need of refurbishment as is pretty
much the case with the rest of the hotel. In spite of the great staff,
I would not recommend this hotel at the price we paid which I felel is
high. We were paying £100 per room for 2 roorms. (B&B) We did not stay
for our second night as we could get much better value elsewhere even at that time of the year.
Enjoyable One Night Stay
We have just had one night at this hotel (on a last minute deal for DB&B.) The hotel was well presented and we were made to feel very welcome at reception (who dealt with all our questions and requests without complaint.)
The room was large with a small balcony that had access to a skylight to overlook the local countryside. (The loose tea in the room was really delicate and rather a treat.)
All the staff were friendly. We had an enjoyable evening meal (no problem booking an early table) and a pleasant breakfast.
We would have no hesitation in recommending the hotel for a break. Friendly, helpful staff, that really couldn't do enough for you.
Spent 2 nights at the hall. First night in a standard double in the extension. The room was good, although it took some time and quite a walk (all inside) to get there from reception. Remember this if you decide to carry your own bags! The second night was in the feature double (Lady Bruce's room). This is actually a sort of suite, with a desk in a separate room and a bathroomn with a shower. The bedroom has a sofa and a large double ended roll top bath on a raised platform. Different!
The cooked breakfast was ver good and came very quickly (have your cornflakes or grapefruit before you order!). We had one evening meal, which was of the expected standard for this type of hotel. Service was generally good. The hall is in extensive grounds, so you can go for a walk if so inclined, with views over the fells and the nearby priory ruins.
