This was, as the name implies, the house of the village blacksmith. The renovations are very tasteful and the rooms are nicely appointed. The Bistro/Restaurant serves wonderful local fare. Baird Hall of Residence, Strathclyde University Around 15-20GBP
An art deco buiding in the middle of Rennie Mackintosh country might be considered heresy to some, but it sits on the hill in all its tacky majesty. For how much longer it's going to be there I don't know. Every batch of students have a good go at destroying the place. It's a kind of endearingly stationary feature in an ever changing city Leave a Comment Theme: OtherComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: Sauchiehall Street, GlasgowOther Contact: If you choose to stay here, be p

'Lindores', 20 Rangemore Road, Inverness. Speak to Mrs Davidson, but make sure you have time to talk! 01463 235 807 I paid £28 per night bed & breakfast for a double room - prices are negotiable. Picture of the house to follow! for now, here's one taken 5 minutes' walk away...can you see the snow on the Mountains? I wish I had a zoom lens, but this pic's ok! I took this on a junction below the castle, waiting for the cars to go & hoping the sunset wouldn't disappear!!
Unbeleivably friendly & helpful - puts the Hilton to shame! Original Scottish porridge available for breakfast - try it! Theme: Bed and BreakfastComparison: least expensiveAddress: 20 Rangemore Rd, InvernessOther Contact: From the UK, 01463 235 807

This small hotel is a converted 16th century manor farm, located right on the main road in the small village of Lower Swell. We had a two room suite, which was once the pigsty! The hotel has a beautiful garden and a good restaurant. It's a unique place to stay. Rowardennan Youth Hostel A lovely setting, right on the banks of the famous Loch Lomond. Relax and enjoy the magnificent views from the hostel lounge. Laze on the beach, fish, or walk the West Highland Way, which passes close to the hostel door. Nearby, you’ll find Queen Elizabeth Forest Park and the National Nature Reserve. You can hire launches or take the ferry to Inverbeg (May to Sept). Ben Lomond 3,192ft, Scotland's most southerly Munro, is a fine climb. Open in june, juli, august, september and october, for an average price of 8-10 pounds.
The location is just perfect. Douze of on the lawn in front of the hostel, or on the pier, with your feet bungling in Loch Lomond. Or have a walk in the ancient forests surrounding the castle. And visit the nearby hotel to drink a Blackthorn (cidre beer). A friend of mine met the love of his life in that hotel, so perhaps.....
