Small But Perfectly Formed
For a base in South Somerset you could do worse than stay in this little (7 bedroom) hotel. The Ilchester Arms manages to combine the intimacy of a friendly guesthouse with the amenities and service of a decent hotel.
I personally haven't stayed here for some time but on my last visit dropped in for a few drinks, and the place, recently refurbished, still had the same individual feel about it.
The rooms, though somewhat on the small side, have all the expected bits and bobs and are clean and comfortable.
The 3 public areas, bar, lounge and restaurant, are all slightly different and are all served by their own sections of the bar :)
There is also a very pleasant walled garden which warms rapidly with the briefest hint of sunshine and a private function/dining room.
All-in-all this is a pleasant little hotel.
Unique Quality: Once again I haven't eaten here for some time but reading the menues (note the plural!) the food looks interesting, with an eclectic range going through from sandwiches to traditional modern restaurant favourites such as calve's liver and with a few oriental bits weaving through.
As well as the food there is a well stocked bar, interesting wine list AND DECENT BEER - that, of course, being an absolute must in my book!
With a double room including breakfast around the GBP 75 mark and dinner packages also available, this is very good value for money.
