Sheigra Beach: Spectacular Beach Location
Yet another place we failed to camp at!!
We went to have a look at Sheigra after camping at Droman, out of curiosity. I had read you could camp here, but you can never be sure how things can change over time. We arrived about 10.30am and the sun was just coming out. We took the turn down to the cemetery and parked outside it on hardstanding. We wandered through the gate that had a notice on it saying camping was allowed at a price of £4 a night, pay at the honesty box back on the road by a caravan.
The camping is on a large, sandy grassy area with not too many level parts. I could imagine in wet weather it may be difficult to get off the grass but today, it was very dry. We liked it, although to be honest, where we would have been able to camp, there would have been no view of the sea at all, it being a bit of a walk over the dunes. There was one large tent pitched, in the prime position, where there would have been a sea view but I guess if the wind was blowing, as it is prone to, this spot would have been exposed to the elements. I did like the fact there was only one tent and no-one else .
Unique Quality: Sheigra beach is lovely. The whole place was so quiet, we really should have spent some time here but we had already explored all of this area and it was also early in the day, so we pressed on. Had the day been brilliantly hot, like it was later on in this holiday, I daresay we would have stayed and enjoyed the beach.
No facilities whatsoever! Arrive with an empty toilet and full water.

Droman Pier: Wild Seas At Droman
It was raining, we had looked at Oldshoremore and Polin with a view to staying the night. No joy there, so we pressed on and took the next turning down to Droman Pier, not knowing what the road was like or whether we would be able to stay the night there.
The road turned out to be steep and narrow, (surprise surprise,) and I was concerned whether there would be room to turn round at the end of it. Bingo, we struck gold!! There was a surfaced parking area with room to turn round and park, facing the spectacularly wild sea here and better still, no sign telling us overnighting was forbidden. (Actually there may have been at one time as there were two posts with nothing on them but we felt we were not breaking the rules.)
I think two cars came down the whole time we were here, it was wonderfully peaceful, apart from the wind. We had a wander over the headland and discovered you could walk to beautiful Polin beach from here. The views were stunning, looking out to the many islands dotted about here.
The cliffs we looked out to from the pier were impressive and we could see seabirds nesting in the overhangs high up.
The pier itself was a srange affair, as so many are in these parts. Long, thin and looking extremely tricky for launching anything from. It was also slippy underfoot.
Unique Quality: The location and views and the fact we were on hard ground as it rained a bit.
