I took the train from Edinburgh to Kyle of Lochalsh for a day trip.
I took a bus from Kyle, across the Skye bridge over to Kyleakin.
Kyleakin is a small town on the shore of Haco's Strait with hills behind it.
Kyleakin is located in Strath which is the south-easternmost portion of Skye. It is bounded to the west by Strathaird and to the south by Sleat. Strath was the ancient lands of the Clan MacKinnon - marshals to the MacDonalds of the Isle.
From the west coast of Scotland,
there are 3 routes onto the island: by bridge from Kyle of Lochalsh, or by ferry from either Glenelg or Mallaig
