Wild camping: Spectacular Sunset Above The Coast

At the top of the road beyond the car park for Little Gruinard Beach there was an ideal place to pull off the road and stay the night.A small car was parked here with a sleeping bag laid out over the seats and we were concerned we may have crowded him a little. The occupant turned out to be a lone fisherman who had hiked miles to fish in the lochans. He had set off at first light and not had a lot of luck, catching only one trout large enough to keep before tramping back to his car in the early evening. He wasn't staying the night and in fact, gave us the fish as he couldn't be bothered to cook it! He left, shortly afterwards and we had the place to ourselves.

There was a heathery, grassy hill behind which we sat on top of to be able to appreciate the sea views. It was so hot, I was in my bikini and still not cool enough!!

We cooked the trout over a camp fire, absolutely delicious.

From here, we were rewarded with the most vivid sunset, I think only the second of the holiday. I was determined to take photos, which as you can see, I did but this was the very time the midges decided to descend. And boy, they were there in droves. probably the worst midges we encountered this holiday and unfortunately, were still present in the morning.needless to say, after rising, we didn't linger and were back on the road once again.
