Tell me more about Loughborough as a place to live.

by orinocco

I'm doing a bit of research for a friend. She is interested in moving to Loughborough and wants to know a bit more.

What's are the shopping area and other facilities like? She doesn't drive so would be reliant on public transport.

Also how multi-cultural is the area now-a-days? She is Muslim. I'd appreciate any information you can give me.

Many thanks.

Shopping area fine; it's a small town with a large student population.

Public transport as good as anywhere in the UK. There's a railway station.

Loughborough, like most places in the UK, has a large number of inhabitants from many ethnic groups. Your friend should have no concerns on that score. This is the mosque: http://www.salaam.co.uk/mosques/searchmosque.php?orgcode=327

Travel Tips for Loughborough

Winter.

by A2002

The coldest months will be in January and February. The coldes temperature it will get to is usually -5degC. The usual temperature is around zero in winter. So bring some warm clothings along.

If you want to go for party, you can bring tubes or sleeveless dresses, just like what the brits wear in the cold winter! brrrrrrr...... You can blend in with them if you want.

"Market Town"

Loughborough is the market town where I grew up. I lived here for 18 years. Loughborough is probably most famous for its university, which is renowned for its excellence in sport. Loughborough has a variety of shops but only a few smaller major chain stores. There is a market each Thursday and Saturday. There’s a variety of pubs, bars and restaurants and even a handful of nightclubs. The town has a cinema and a theatre inside the town hall. Each November the fair comes to town for half a week (Wed-Sat). Loughborough is located between Leicester and Nottingham and Derby is relatively close. Birmingham and Sheffield are only an hour’s drive away. East midlands airport is only 7 or 8 miles away.
