The Crown Hotel: Old Fashioned Hospitality

The Crown, whilst aspiring to be an hotel, isn't really - it's more!
It's a VILLAGE INN!!
The way a village inn should be, having a good local trade, but yet still welcoming to us wayfarers.

The rooms are all individuals, some cosy (i.e. quite small, but ideal if travelling by yourself), others spacious with four-poster beds (if you're not travelling by yourself, obviously, but you do have to bring your own fur-lined double set of handcuffs!) but all are comfortable, with all the basics done perfectly.

The food is excellent and at dinner you have the choice of the restaurant, with a set dinner done semi-formally: pre-dinner drinks in the lounge 7pm, sit down 7.30: or eat informally in the "Whip and Collar" bar/restaurant or, weather permitting, terrace (you still have to bring your own whips and collars though!)

This is not an hotel for great views, this is not for excitement............this is chill out time, relax and enjoy!

Unique Quality: The thing that I love about The Crown is the hospitality, Peter and Lynn are perfect hosts, and Abby, Cheers Abs! , the main girl, who still remembered me after over five years!

This is not just service, this is intimate.

On my last visit I missed breakfast (by about 6 hours!) but they just let me have my lie-in, and when I finally surfaced (about 2 pm!!) Abs sorted me a bacon buttie and a mug of coffee, I went to pay my bill and Lynn had knocked a tenner off what I'd been quoted and Pete was going into into Barnstaple anyway and "would I like a lift?"

OK I will admit that I am no casual stranger, but everyone who is a regular ( and that means going more than once!) has similar stories to tell.

The Ingleside Hotel.: A warm welcome at The Ingleside, Lynton.

The Ingleside is a small family run Hotel and we stay there evrytime we visit Lynton. Our rooms have always been spacious and spotlessly clean. All rooms are en-suite with T.V's etc and there is a lounge with books, maps, music & puzzles for guests to use. The Ingleside is located just to the rear of Lynton Town Hall on Lee Road and is therefore within a minutes walk of all shops, restaurants as well as the Lynton & Lynmouth Cliff Railway. The Hotel has a great view overlooking Lynton and Countisbury hill.

Unique Quality: The breakfast is plentiful with lots of choices available and goes down well, especially after an early morning walk to The Valley of the Rocks. A 3 course evening meal is also available and is delicious and reasonably priced. The hotel is not licensed to serve alcohol but glasses are supplied for guests that bring their own wine etc. There is no corkage charge.

The Ingleside has a relaxed friendly atmosphere and Keith & Diana always make us feel welcome. If we choose to "eat in" Diana is happy to chill my wine during the day ready to serve with dinner.

We wouldn't stay anywhere else.

*** Just back after our latest visit in September, 2010. Just as good as ever.***
