Lynton & Lynmouth, North Devon.
My Wife, Chris, and I went to Lynmouth & Lynton to celebrate our 19th wedding anniversary in August, 2004 and managed to get back down again in October 2004. I have been back twice in 2005, once when we used Lynton as the starting point when walking some of the south-west coast path. We will be visiting twice in 2006. ** Just back after our latest visit in September, 2010.**
We always stay at The Ingleside Hotel in Lynton as we have enjoyed our previous visits so much. We always enjoy walking in the area to take in the magnificent scenery.
The main street and the harbour area get really busy especially at week-ends in summer. It's an ideal place just to wander round and relax. There are some interesting shops selling everything from leather goods to wood carvings etc.
There are a couple of pubs as well as numerous restaurants and cafes. Treat yourself to a cream tea or a freshly baked pastie. Boat trips are available from the harbour.
This area is an ideal base for those who enjoy walking. There are coastal walks in both directions. You can head East towards County Gate or heading west along the coastal path will bring you to the Valley of the Rocks.
If you follow the East Lyn river upstream from Lynmouth there is a scenic walk which follows the East Lyn river heading upstream to Watersmeet. If you still feel energetic you can do a left and climb up over Countisbury Hill. The scenery is amazing wherever you go.
