More about Lakeside Hotel
We got married at the hotel on Thursday 9th March 2006 and from the time we arrived we were really looked after, from the valet parking, to the reception staff and the porters, everything was superb! the room was lovely if a little tired (minor gripe). for the 2nd night stayed in one of the lodges and this was absolutely beautiful, the room was really spacious, there was a large open plan bedroom with lounge area, beautiful bathroom and your own separate sauna. the lodge also gave perfect views over the lake!We Opened all the curtains in the morning for our own private view of the lake!!! (expensive, but worth it for a special occasion)!! The staff were excellent, helpful, efficient and always, always smiling, the service was excellent and the food was lovely. We and our guests had a wonderful time, a large part of this was because of the staff. The hotel was very clean and everyone was made to feel special. I would recommend this hotel to everyone, families and couples, the spa and pool were gorgeous and the log fires everywhere added to the whole ambience of the hotel, if your getting married, please look at this hotel, perfect all the way!!
We stayed at the Lakeside for the weekend. Arrived on Friday evening and our luggage was whisked away and our car valet parked whilst we were taken for a tour around the hotel with a glass of fresh orange juice to drink along the way
Our luggage and car keys were delivered to us within minutes of our arrival at our room which was a lake view room, newly decorated, clean and comfortable
Ate in the hotel both nights, once in the brasserie and once in the main restaurant and the food and service were superb. Both restaurants have a set price menu and the Lakeview Restaurant menu includes chateaubriand for 2 at a small supplement - fabulous, since it is cooked to your liking and served tableside
The staff were friendly and helpful, and always smiled and said hello when they passed by (a rarity these days in most hotels)
The pool area is well worth a visit
You can hop on a boat and sail up to Bowness which is nice if you want to leave the car behind
We will definitely be returning for another weekend break to the Lakeside soon
A perfect location to get married or for a getaway
We got married on February 26th at the Lakeside and it was the most perfect day we could wish for. Everything about this hotel is fantastic - the staff, the service, the food etc. We had a small wedding in the Oak Room which is just gorgeous with its original oak panelling and open fire. Its a beautiful, traditionally English hotel.
From beginning to end our wedding was perfect and the Lakeside will tailor their facilities to your exact requirements.
We cant praise the hotel enough and although it may be a little expensive you can be assured that your stay will be a pleasurable one.
Weddings apart, this is probably one of the most romantic and scenic places you could go for a getaway with a loved one.
Highly recommended! Absolutely one of the finest hotels in the Lake District, if not the best.
One of the Best
This is an extremely well kept traditional hotel.
We have stayed in this hotel many times (5 times within a year), and it gets better with each stay. The bedrooms are very clean and comfortable. The ones with Lake views are the best. The suites are something else. In the lodge suites, there is even a sauna in the room!
The food in both restaurants is fantastic, with exceptional service. Staff bend over backwards to meet your dietary needs. All staff take time to speak to you and ask you how your day was etc. This is unusual in this day and age.
The pool/spa area is very clean and never seems to be too crowded. There is also a jacuzzi, steam room, sauna and a gym with modern equipment.
It isn't cheap, but its worth it because its special.
The location is unbeatable and the lake views are rewarding. There are a few points worth mentioning such as:
Reception comprises of 2 small desks with long queues at checkout.
We booked a very pricy lodge which toally did not live up to our expectations:
The lodge is 5 minutes walk away and totally detached from the main hotel resulting in visitors getting wet and having to walk down the street in total darkness when walking to the restaurant. There is a sauna in the lodge- but also wardrobes next to it (why not a shower and a spare toilet?)- and a lack of decoration (no pictures on the walls). The tap in the bathroom only had cold water.
We never received our dessert for the 3 course meal in the brasserie - only the invoice after 45 minutes when we were done with the second course (maybe the invoice is the 3rd course?!). We had numerous waiter on our table - noone seemed to be in control or aware what was going on.... charming but clueles.
All in all- disappointing and expensive stay.
Could not fault this hotel. Room was lovely with a big bath, we didn't have a lake view but did have a small garden with table and chairs (unfortunately weather did not allow us to enjoy this!).
Pool and spa were fabulous and quiet, wait until arrival to book a treatment as subject to availability you can get some good deals.
Food was lovely, although only 3 choices for the evening menu. Accompanying pianist in the conservatory a good touch.
Staff very friendly and helpful.
Location fabulous, walk up to High Dam well worth the trip.
Only problem is parking, you have to use the aquarium car park, Staff were only too keen to help you with your bags though.
Not good at all, didn't stay
I cannot comment on the restuarant or the spa as we did not stay due to the appalling condition of the rooms we were shown. Staff were hurried. Room smelt damp, had damp on walls, peeling paper and peeling paint. Generally not clean. Rooms are small. Gardens unkempt. In no way a 4 star experience, not value for money. We had our deposit refunded and left.
Another Great Family Break
We returned yesterday from our third visit to Lakeside. Having just read the last review we feel compelled to explain how wonderful our break has yet again been.
Our room, although not with a lake view this time, was very spacious and had plenty of room for our daughters sofa bad - which was made up and put down by room service every day without fuss. The room was very well appointed and very relaxing. Baby listening worked well.
Our 3 yr old daughter was made to feel extremely welcome in what could potentially be a stuffy hotel. The staff were very attentive and in our opinion offer first rate service without any unnecessary formality.
The pool is just perfect for youngesters while the gardens and small but well maintained - certainly good enough for tiring out Dad chasing a little girl!
Food in both restaurants in first class and well presented. Nothing is too much trouble for the kitchen to keep little ones happy. If it sounds like we focus on child fun, you would be right. If the kids are happy we are happy!
We will be returning for another holiday soon! Simon, Helen & Poppy
Lakeside Hotel is a wonderful place to stay for a special treat. I shared my friends 40th birthday celebrations there over a weekend in April - the service, friendly professional staff and the beautiful location made it a perfect celebration. My friends room was upgraded free of charge due to it being her birthday and the view of the lake was fantastic. Both our rooms were well furnished and decorated and I also had a lake view in a spa bath room.
We ate in the hotel the 2 evenings we were there. We tried both restaurants - the food was excellent. With regards an earlier reviewers comments on the breakfast at this hotel -
what else could he have eaten? - there was a very adequate help yourself cold selection and hot was ordered from the table and was very nice with unusual choices together with the traditional bacon & eggs option.
The swimming pool area was immaculate and the pool was never overcrowded.
We will be returning as soon as possible - its simply delightful.
Caution - ask the price of the brandy from the trolley before you order any!!!
THE PERFECT WEDDING
Thakyou to the Lakeside Hotel for the perfect day for our daughter Claires wedding to Matthew. What a beautiful setting on Lake Windermere ( just sorry you couldn't book the weather for us)
They got married in a lovely room called the Oak Room which was the perfect venue for our small wedding party of 23. The room was set out for the wedding and then reset for the wedding breakfast, both looked lovely and tasteful. We have some lovely photographs.
We managed to get some photographs out side with the groom etc in the well kept gardens (our compliments to the gardner) but due to the weather conditions during the wedding most of the photographs were taken in the spa area ( has to bee seen to be appreciated) and on the feature staircase outside the Oak Room .
What more can I say, yes I can.
The hotel has achieved its goal in providing its clients with a calm relaxing environment ( I've never been so relaxed, especially after the wedding)
Thankyou to the Lakeside staff ( always a smile and hello) for a wonderful day, great food(you must try the restaurants, not to be missed).
This is the perfect wedding venue
