A nice hotel & location, SOME air conditioning

If we would ever visit Belfast again, we would stay there again, though keep in mind many rooms do NOT have air conditioning even though it is a 4 or 5 star hotel. Our room did not have it even though we had the room next to the President Clinton Suite on the 11th of 12 floors. Rooms with air conditioning cost more.

Unique Quality: It was bombed 36 times, 34 by the IRA. The other two times, who knows. As I understand there were no deaths because they always gave a warning before the blast to allow people to escape.
The Opera across the street was completely destroyed 6 times. Those guys were persistant. It was a war zone back then. Times are much better now.

There are 3 pubs, one very nice, directly across the street though, other than that within several blocks the city is quite bland.

Historic landmark

Known as the most bombed hotel in the world, the Europa has fell victim to numerous IRA bomb attacks over the last 30 years but in true Belfast style was never defeated. It host excellent dining, luxurious and simple rooms and it has the best location of any hotel in Belfast.

Unique Quality: Offers a lovely drinking location overlooking the street from which to plan the rest of evening of Belfast style boozing!

Europe's most bombed hotel

The Europa hotel has the dubious distinction of being the most bombed hotel in Europe. Thankfully those days have largely gone from Belfast and you should be assured of a largely undisturbed nights sleep. Pricewise it would be at the top end of the market, but for this you get a superb central location within stumbling distance of most of Belfast’s top nightspots and attractions.

You will always be assured of craic in any of its three bars and you will have no shortage of both local and international characters to pass a few hours chatting to.

EUROPA HOTEL.

by wanderingbilly about Europa Hotel - Belfast

THE BELFAST EUROPA HOTEL HAS THE SAD HONOUR OF BEING THE MOST BOMBED HOTEL IN EUROPE. THAT WAS DURING THE TROUBLES AND WITH ANY LUCK THEM DAYS ARE ALL BUT GONE..THE EUROPA IS BETTER KNOWN NOW FOR BEING THE CHOICE OF EX PRESIDENT BILL CLINTON WHEN HE CAME TO BELFAST IN 1995 AND 1998.
THE HOTEL IS OWNED BY THE HASTINGS GROUP AND WENT THROUGH A MULTI MILLION POUND MAKEOVER SOME YEARS BACK AND IS NOW A VERY SMART 4* HOTEL RIGHT IN THE HEART OF BELFAST. IT SITS RIGHT ON GREAT VICTORIA STREET ALSO KNOWN AS THE GOLDEN MILE.
HERE YOU WILL FIND MOST OF BELFASTS NIGHTLIFE AND TRENDY RESTAURANTS ALL WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE OF THE EUROPA. THE HOTEL ITSELF HAS A LOVELY BAR AREA OVERLOOKING GREAT VICTORIA STREET AND ALL ITS NIGHTLIFE.
FOR LOCATION AND COMFORT THE EUROPA IS HARD TO BEAT.

THE MOST BOMBED HOTEL IN EUROPE

by DAO about EUROPA HOTEL (BELFAST)

Thankfully today, the only thing that gets bombed in this hotel now are the guests in the bar. With 2 excellent bars, that’s easy to do. The Europa is THE hotel to stay in and be seen at. When Royalty and Diplomats come here, this is where they stay. In my case, my job was kind enough to let me stay. So what is the history? It was opened in July 1971 and was clearly THE luxury hotel in Belfast. The proletarian IRA saw this as just about everything they didn’t like and promptly started setting off bombs in, out and nearby the hotel. Over 30 times they forced redecorations. Fortunately that’s all they did.

Today it has been massively refurbished and redecorated, without any outside help, to a luxurious finish. The rooms are compact, but full of good things like supersoft beds, great monsoon showers and flat-screen TV’s. Yep, I have pictures of all that!

This 4-star hotel has 240 bedrooms, including the 56 Executive Suites. If you simply must work, you also get WiFi internet access.

Each room has:
International direct dial telephone
Room service available (7.00am - 2.00am)
Tea & coffee making facilities
Trouser presses or irons & ironing boards
Hair dryer
Laundry & dry-cleaning available
Fantastic soap & shampoos in your bathroom
Lots of huge fluffy white towels

Please note: The Gym facilities are elsewhere and keep short hours, ask for details
You get:
• A great nights sleep
• A fantastic buffet breakfast that will fill you up for the day
• You are in THE hotel!
• Great lounge bar that’s a real nightspot
• Free newspapers, magazines and maps in the lobby

The Most bombed hotel in Europe: Europe Hotel

by LolaSanFrancisco about Europa Hotel - Belfast

I drifted into to the hotel liquored up from the train ride. From the backside when you arrive from the train you see the back of the hotel. And it looks like hell. However, from the front itýs nice and rebuilt, and rebuilt, and rebuilt. Martin the concierge has been with the hotel for 28 years and has been through something like 50 bombings. When I asked when he would write a book about it, he said no one would be interested. I think he was being diplomatic and careful. No matter how much prodding, he man never gave up the story. Maybe should have tipped more. Rooms
The 240 bedrooms are medium in size and in exceptional condition. All are ensuite with full facilities and the decor is fairly bright and modern. These rooms are very comfortable and appealing.
Restaurant
The restaurant features fine cuisine of traditional and continental specialities. It offers a la carte menus and is a fairly formal dining room. The brasserie is informal and serves lighter meals in a modern, light room. This restaurant is open from 6am to midnight.
Exterior
This is a grand, modern building situated along the street. It looks particularly impressive when lit up at night.
Lobby
The lobby is very large and grand with marble pillars and a very long reception desk. There are luxurious sofas and floral displays, creating a welcoming feeling upon arrival.
General
This is an excellent hotel for any market or traveller. Its location is good and the overall standard is exceptional. 05/03 RH
