Upmarket
by kranstonakov about The Cloth Ear
The cloth ear is the Merchant hotels bar,so i guess you can imagine, its pretty upmarket. Its joint onto the hotel, and the dormen will be wearing tophats. Its right on the corner of Skipper Street, and its right in the the heart of the Cathedral Quarter - Quality to hang around outside on a summers night and soak up the atmosphere. Smart
Allens
by leics
There are several bus tours operating around Belfast. I decided to go with Allens, which is a local firm with more-or-less hourly departures from the high Street (outside a shop called 'The Wicker Man').
Why did I decide to go with them? Well, partially because they are a local firm but also because they were running a special offer, so my ticket (bought at the Belfast Welcome Centre) was considerably less than those offered by the rival companies.
The tour was excellent, with the guide giving clear and accurate information (essential when trying to explain the Troubles to non-UK citizens) as well as cracking several rather clever jokes.
It's a pretty comprehensive route, taking in Stormont and the University Quarter, the Dockyards (soon to be 'the Titanic Quarter') , the Falls, Crumlin and Shankhill Roads and more.
Recommended, especially if the weather allows you to sit in the open-top part of the bus.
The Albert Memorial Clock
by St_Vincent
The Albert Memorial Clock is Belfast’s very own leaning tower. Back in 1865 when it was built it was erected on land reclaimed from the River Lagan and due to subsidence since then it now leans about 1.25 meters. That’s not the only strange story around this memorial though. You’ll see that it features a statue of Prince Albert and if you look closely you’ll notice that the plinth on which he stands is a little too small so half of one foot is hovering off the edge giving the impression he is about to jump off.
