    Park Plaza Airport Hotel

    by

We had the misfortune to be stuck at the airport arriving late one night and not having the will or energy to go into the city. The nearest option was the Park Plaza. The room was a very expensive 100 pounds. Whilst reasonably comfortable the window could not close properly so we were treated to the sound of the wind howling in off the lough all night, and a noisy party from the bar's garden downstairs.

Unique Quality: The only good thing I can say it's situated less than 100 yards from the airport terminal.

Directions: Directly across the road from the terminal building

by sourbugger about Park Plaza, Belfast international

'Park Plaza' always strikes me as one of those names that has been dreamt up by a group of over paid design consultants. Coming up with a suitably boring name after about five minutes, they string it out for a few weeks and bill the company accordingly. It reminded me of the story of the consultancy that got paid an obscene amound of money to come up with new names for a certain English University. After weeks of labouring away, they came up with : Bradford University, The University of Bradford and Bradford University - Brilliant (the Brilliant word is mine, by the way, not theirs !)

Despite these reservations, the hotel was clean, spacious and well-run. In terms of exploring Northern Ireland, it is a great choice as it makes any part of the province within striking distance.

If you arrive late, it also great to just wander out of the terminal building, cross the car-park and fall into a very comfortable bed.

Great deals also seem to come up at this place. I got a double room for only just over 30 quid in February 2007

UPDATE : OCT 2008. Another great deal : 45 quid for a double (booked on-line, no refund, No breakfast, No wild parties, No wild animals ). Rooms still great value, staff still good, but the bar food was rather pubby and overpriced.
