    Abbey B&B

    by

Located in the Bogside within walking distance of the city walls, the Abbey B&B is a very comfortable, moderately priced place to stay. The host-- Seamus-- was very helpful and a great guy to talk with. Breakfast was laid back and good, and the room modern, clean and comfortable. Highly recommend.

    Unique Quality: Good, convenient location.

    Directions: Bogside

Probably the best B&B in Europe, or the world!

by TripAdvisor Member john92734

I've stayed in many B&B's over the years and this is unrivalled. The room was great, the breakfast excellent but Seamus and his wife are the best thing about this B&B. Their genuine hospitality, friendliness and knowledge of the area makes this one a place to visit again and again!!! Also Derry is a great base to explore this part of Ireland..will be back!!

Excellent stay at the Abbey in Derry

by TripAdvisor Member ericmac

Susan and I were there mid-January this year, and rented a car on-line at Londonderry Airport and drove the short distance to the Abbey, where we were met by Mine Host Seamus, who immediately made us welcome. The room was spotless and more than adequate with a recently fitted out bathroom. He gave us some pointers where to eat and drink, what to see etc...
The breakfast given to us was second to none, and the lady who cooked it for us was very helpful and friendly,
Another good touch from Seamus was that he allowed us to keep the key of the house till our flight was going back to Scotland late on the Sunday night, where most operators will want you out for noon at the latest. We then just popped the key through the door when we finally left around 8pm. Hospitality second to none. I do a bit of photography, but the weather while we were there was cold and wet, (bit of a home from home - we are from the west coast of Scotland!) and photo oportunities were minimal. Derry itself is a nice wee city, loads of history. Take a walk round Derry's walls - some good historic stuff there. One thing to do if you are renting a car is to drive along the Antrim coast to the Giant's Causeway. These are an amazing array of bassalt columns, which on first sight, you would say had been manufactured! Well worth a trip up there - and a nice easy one hour drive as well. Also, travel to Eire is easily accessible as Londonderry is on the border. Slightly cheaper petrol as well. We took a drive down to Donegal town and heading back north, stopping off at Enniskilin for lunch, Omagh and Strabane, before heading back to Derry for a few pints and dinner. I have several photos, but unfortunately cannot upload them to this site as each image is larger than the permitted 2mb - most are around 4mb. (The camera I have is 8.5 million pixels). In summary, The Abbey B & B is well recommended and should be visited if you are ever in that part of the Province. You will be well treated and the house is immaculate.

I love Derry because of the Abbey

by TripAdvisor Member Ernenek

Do you want to see Derry from the inside? Do you want to feel so special that you'll have to go back? (as I have four or five times).

The Abbey B&B has very comfortable rooms, each with its own private bath. Breakfast (full Irish) comes with entertainment; she goes by "Helen". And her husband, Seamus, might meet up with you at one of the local pubs and keep you up till the wee hours. No matter what, you'll feel very special by the way your host(ess) treat you.

The Abbey B&B is about two blocks from town center in the Bogside. And before getting to town center, you pass by the nightlife pubs where there is music nightly.

Happiness is waking up at the Abbey!

Great Place

We have stayed at the Abbey twice so far and are booked again for two stays in 2007. Seamus makes all the visitors very welcome. Great Breakfast and rooms are spacious and very clean. The great thing is that the Abbey is within walking distances of the shops, attractions and the Millenium Forum Theatre

Brilliant at the Abbey

by TripAdvisor Member YorkshireGak

We have just returned from a great four night stay at the Abbey, the owners Seamus & Helen are very gracious and make you feel at home. The rooms are large warm and comfortable. If you have one of Helen's full Irish breakfast it will set you up for the day.
The Hotel is brilliantly placed for all the sights, and night life of Derry, you must go on the walking tour, which is just round the corner from the Abbey, just ask Seamus he will point you in the right direction, in fact just ask him or Helen about anything and they will be more than pleased to help.
Derry was all and more than i expected, i will return to the Abbey hopefully in the near future.
Thank you, Gillian & Keith.

Loved this B&B and the owners are awesome!

Part of my daughter's wedding party stayed at Abbey -- me, the mother, included! This was a destination wedding and Ireland was selected because both sides of the family originated in Ireland. London Derry was selected because my daughter's priest in Atlanta is from Derry and she flew him home to perform the ceremony.

Abbey B&B was so wonderfully warm and cozy home-like with 6 rooms and the combination dining/living room with restrooms for every suite. The owners catered to us beyond expectations! Seamus Kennedy recommended places to go, things to do, as well as helped with the wedding plans -- flowers, photographer, dry cleaners for the gown. He arranged for all of us (39) to meet with the mayor of Derry and contacted the local paper to interview and take photos of our group. Seamus provided us with wine and music that morning before the wedding and his 13-yr old daughter, as a gift to my daughter, sang a most beautiful love song to us just before leaving for the wedding at St. Eugene's, which started the tears for me. And, as if that was not enough, he photographed some of the wedding, developed the shots and framed one as a wedding gift the next morning!

Both Seamus and Helen Kennedy went way beyond the usual graciousness of B&B owners, which made our stay the absolute best of any of our travels. I will definitely return and also highly recommend to anyone who may be traveling to northern Ireland.

What a find!!!!!!

by TripAdvisor Member medic408

Wow! We were taken in by Seamus and Helen and treated as if we were family. My wife and I were part of a wedding party that visited from The United States and could not have possibly found a better place to stay. The bedrooms were clean and plenty large enough for two overpacked tourist. The bathrooms were insuite and restocked daily with clean linen. Our stay was only made more satisfying in that Seamus and Helen assisted us in not only the final details of the wedding, but they also helped us plan our activities so that we would get the best of our time in Northern Ireland.
I believe there is not a better way to start your day then with Helen's Full Irish breakfast in the AM. The dining room and living room combination was a great place to start our day with our friends and other guest of the establishment. The location of the B & B is perfect, just a very short walk to town center and the historically rich environment that Derry provides. Do not let this area of Northern Ireland go unvisited and when you plan your trip remember that this a great location to stay as you are only a short drive away from the most beautiful landscape that my wife and I have ever laid eyes upon. To Seamus and Helen, a sincere thank you for making our dream vacation even better then imagined. You were truly great hosts.
Billy and Kristin
