There was one weekend during my time in NI that there was some kind of festival going on, and everywhere (even the Travelodge) was fully booked. Thanks to the desk lady at the snobbish Tower Hotel, she somehow knew of this place that had rooms available for 50lbs. a nite.
The Broomhill is located on the Waterside (Protestant side of the River), and you can tell that not many people seem to stay here. It's old. You can see that the paint, carpeting, and wallpaper has been stained from years and years of cigarette smoke. The room was tiny, and I had to ask for towels. The bed was not comfortable, and the TV (not that it mattered really) was barely big enough for the room.
I think that they realized that they were the last place in town for available rooms, and so they charged what everyone else was charging that weekend - 50lbs. If that's what they normally charge, then I don't know how they do business.
Unique Quality: It's unique in the fact that it looks like it was some kind of estate that was turned into a hotel many many years ago.
Directions: If you can get directions from a local, then as you drive along the road, look for the powder blue iron gate. This is the entrance.
