just north of the city walls - its £45 a night if you just turn up, probably less if booked in advance.
Its a travelodge so its basic but it done the job.
the Derry city hostel was closed for refurbishment at the time otherwise wouldve stayed there.
Parking for the travelodge is across the road and 30p per hour or something - until 6pm then starts again at 8am.
I stayed one night at the Amore B&B located at 13 Columcile Court. While the address lists Columcile Court, the entrance is on Abbey Street. The location is in the heart of the Irish Catholic Bogside section of the city where the Bloody Sunday massacre occurred on 30 January 1972. During the Troubles, the Bogside was the Irish Republican Army (IRA) headquarters in Derry -- and it was essentially a war zone. The situation changed for the better with the peace negotiations in the 1990's, culminating in the Good Friday Agreement in 1998. Now, the Bogside is a safe and convenient area for tourists to stay.
Amore is a new B&B with four guestrooms (all en suite) -- in a recently renovated dwelling. The hosts, Barry and Joan Nelson, are a very friendly and helpful young couple. They live off-site, but nearby in the Bogside section. They are life-long residents of the Bogside -- so they were first-hand witnesses to the recent Troubles. I learned a lot about this difficult period during a long conversation with Barry. Also, it should be noted that Joan works in the Derry Tourist Information Office -- so she is a great up-to-date resource for events and tourist attractions in the city and surrounding area.
I booked my room in advance through a website named uk-bookings that is powered by a payment service named Eviivo -- and everything went smoothly. The total cost for my 1-night stay was 45 Pounds.
My room was on the second floor. It was nicely furnished with a double bed, color television, and ample closet space. My private bathroom was large -- and located in the hallway directly adjacent to the room. Initially, I couldn't figure out how to operate the shower which had a drawstring -- but, after learning how, it worked great.
As a B&B, breakfast is included in the rate. If someone wants to eat a light breakfast, Amore has cereal and fruit as an option. However, I opted for the Northern Ireland variation of the full Irish breakfast -- commonly known as the "Ulster Fry". Barry cooked the breakfast -- and it was excellent!
In addition to a comfortable room and great breakfast, Amore has a computer in the common area with free internet access for guests. Also, the hosts were gracious enough to allow me to store my bags for a few hours after check-out until my ride to County Donegal arrived.
Overall, I was very satisfied with my stay at the Amore B&B -- and I would certainly consider staying here again if I'm ever in Derry.
Located in the heart of the Bogside section -- only minutes away from the murals and Free Derry Corner. Also, it is only a few minutes walk from the city centre.
Helpful and friendly hosts who will do what they can to ensure that your stay in Derry is pleasant and rewarding. Upon my request, they graciously allowed me to store my bags for a few hours after check-out.

Great Ulster Fry breakfast! Also, cereal and fruits are available for anyone who wants a lighter option.
Brilliant flat, 2 bedrooms, 1 en suite. Fully equiped kitchen, washer, dryer, dishwasher, microwave and fridge freezer. Plenty of linen supplied. Owners very pleasant and helpful.
Security entry, great views. All other flats in building are residential, and very quiet.
My stay at the Travelodge Derry, taken in context, was broadly speaking ok.
The Room no 203 was a second floor room with plenty of space for one with a cruddy view of the streets below.
The bed was fine, the TV worked and the shower was hot, the bathroom fittings were a bit tired and old, the decor was forgettable, and there was only one tiny soap, and a couple of SMALL towels left daily nothing more.
Breakfast was one area which I found to be far below even a basic hotels brief, the tea was only luke warm not hot, the bread for toast was plain, white, and of poor quality, the fruit(what there was) was mostly bruised, all that was left was cereal ie muesli and fruit juice which was orange, and something else ? (I never had it).
All this quality choice was yours for a stunning sum of £6 A DAY, which for what you got was a big fat rip off.
So what kind of hotel is the travelodge Derry ?
On the face of it, it is ok as long as you don't expect too much, but it is not that great value for money.
Yep, I had read the reviews on the site but at £40 for a room i took the gamble.
Really gald i did this place is really handy. Next door is indeed a weatherspoons, with really cheap prices, the location is excellent and you can get everywhere on foot from the hotel, yes the internal view aint great from your window but I want to see whats outside on foot for my view.
I got fixed up to stay for a business week with much thanks to Marie at the reception desk of Davinci's Hotel. THANK YOU...you were a life saver that evening. So, with that context, you can understand how incredibly fortunate it was to go from A: returning to LDY from LHR without a place to stay vs. B: returning to a very nice furnished apartment that was incredibly a ccomodating.
The plusses...the brown, cushy leather sofa and chair. The cable tv. The stereo system. The leather chairs and dining room table. The street view. The fully applianced kitchen. The parking garage. The privacy. The big comfy bed. The room service. The hairdresser downstairs.
The minuses...the narrow building hallways and maze from the parking level to the apartment door. The half glass enclosure on the shower/bath. The small, teeny weeny hallway closet. The street noise - especially when the pubs let out - at night if you kept the windows open.
I think we covered it, but also, if you needed something you could get in touch with the reception at the hotel just by dialing zero just like in a hotel room.
I was looking over my accomodation tips, and I just realized that I forgot to write up tips on this place and the better the best furnished apts. So, that is why the update date is much further in time from the other tips.
If you prefer not to live out of a hotel while you're in L'derry/Derry for an extended stay, then you should make every attempt to find a place. I didn't find out about this place until much later in my stay towards the end, and I ended up moving in when I got bumped from one of the hotels after not extending my reservation in time. So, I only stayed about a week and a half, but as I found out there were many other people from site staying with this company.
The apartment was two bedrooms with a queen and a single. One bath. Kitchen, dining area with table. Living room. It was all quite nice, except that the living room couch probably needed to be replaced. Aside from that, the rest of the furnishings seemed in good shape. The kitchen was outfitted with most everything you would need to easily cook meals. My problem with the place was that the hot water didn't seem to work. I would turn on the heater switch, and then I would get in the shower and it would only last for about 2-5 minutes!!! I mentioned this fact during my stay, but no one seemed to make bother about it. So, I wasn't to plussed about leaving when I did move out even if I was going back to a hotel - at least I'd have hot water!!! If it wasn't for this issue, I would have stayed, but this was the straw that broke the camel's back after 3 successive days of cold showers.
Have listed this as less expensive than average based on the fact that apartments for extended stays are cheaper than nightly hotels' costs, fees, and taxes.

--Easy going management - didn't ask for a deposit or down payment...in fact and quite strangely, they didn't meet me to let me into the apartment. I talked to the woman on the phone, and I explained to her how I was in a bind for a place to stay. She said I could move into the apartment for as long as I wanted. She said to call back later when I was done work...okay, no problem...when I got to the apartment complex, I called and I thought she was giving me directions over the phone on how to get into the building to meet her in an office. In fact, she gave me directions and codes for entry not only into the building, but into the apartment...keep in mind that I never met her...no background check...didin't give her my credit card info...all she knew is that I was working on the Coolkeeragh project and that my co-worker, Tom, was staying in a similar apartment... I could have sacked the palce...could have stolen everything, and they'd have had nothing left!!! I could not believe it.
When all the major hotels are booked, you can inquire here. It's modest at best. There's nothing fancy about the room at all, and the 3 times I stayed here, it was only for 1 nite. Each time I had a room where there was something that really should have been fixed. You go here, because you need a place to sleep, put your things, and at least have a shower in the morning.
The Travelodge isn't cheap despite its paltry accomodations. It was 45lbs. per nite twice, and it was 50lbs. per nite the one weekend nite I stayed there when just about everything was booked and this was their last available room.
The only thing unique about this place is that it's located about 50m from the City Hotel and it's right across the street from the Cosmopolitan Bar.
I stayed here the other 2 out of 6 months while I was on assignment in NI, and it was pretty good. The room was the best part of my stay. The room was one of their executive stays. Desk and office chair. Table. A bed that was larger than a normal King size, and the executive rooms have the view of the river and the Guildhall like you see here. This room also came equipped with a mini-bar. Also, for a traveller like myself who has a lot of clothes to carry around, the room has a nice storage/rack area where you can put your things. The hotel does also boast it's pool and exercise facilities which are more than typical one treadmill, bike machine, universal rack, and rowing machine you usually get in a hotel's fitness facility. It also has a ballroom, and it is very often accomodating weddings, parties or other functions.
The upside to this hotel is unfortunately outweighed by its downside. The restaurant and room service food is not that good, except for their breakfast buffet which is excellent. There is a tiny underground parking lot that gets filled up quickly or closed off to its guests if there is a booking for the ballroom. Then you have to park across the street along the river, which is a hassle. Finally the 68lbs. per nite reduced rate is not worth the money when I was getting better food, friendlier people, parking, and comfortable stay at DaVinci's for 50lbs. per nite reduced rate.
The view isn't bad, and the location is closer to the city centre and more pubs. The room is the nicest I stayed in the town, but it's expensive. A very nice spread for breakfast.
I stayed in DaVinci's for about 4 out of the 6 months I was there. The people at the front desk were very accomodating, and I'm grateful to them for their service. For example, if there was a problem with something for my room or the several times that I forgot to extend my reservation, the girls at the front desk would call the girl I was dating at the time to get my work number to then call me to discuss. Another example, in April, I had flown to London to meet up with friends for the weekend. I left knowing that they were going to be fully booked along with all the other hotels in the city when I returned. I tried to find accomodations for when I returned while I was in London. No luck. I'm sitting in Gatwick airport desperate for a place to stay. I called DaVinci's sitting at the gate just to see if maybe something opened up last minute. I talked to Marie, and explained my situation. She ended up booking me into one of their apartment complexes for the week at a reduced rate! Needless to say, it was a very nice apt.
Not only did the people working at the hotel make my stay there enjoyable, but there are some other things that were enjoyable. First, DaVinci's has 3 huge bar areas that get absolutely juggernaut on the weekends. It's one of the hot places to go in the town. Second, there is loads of parking, which is a problem at other hotels, and regardless of how packed the bars got I was always able to find a space somewhere in the lot. Third, the food served in the restaurant and for room service is very very good. When I first got there, their breakfast wasn't that great, but by the time I left it was quality.
There isn't much that I found wrong. Although the beds in my last room were at the stage of needing to be replaced, because I'd wake up in the morning with a sore back. Finally, the rooms themselves aren't particularly fancy. They do have executive rooms with a King size bed, small couch, and coffee table, but it's not as nice as the other major hotel I stayed in.
There are a couple things that tip the scales of this hotel over the others. The fact that you stay right above 3 bars where a lot of people come to on the weekends means you can get bollocksed and not worry about driving home or waiting for a cab. Also, as I mentioned before, the food was better than any of the other hotels I stayed in.
If you're going to be staying long term as I did, then you should definitely inquire about or put your name on the list for the DaVinci's Apartotel Apts. further down towards the city center on Culmore Rd. I stayed here for one week thanks to Marie, and I absolutely did not want to leave. Leather couches and dining room chairs. Stereo. DVD player. Couch blankets. Full kitchen with utensils. Big bed. Room service. Dedicated parking. Prime setup for a person like myself - longer term business traveler.
