A country retreat

Barnsdale hall has slowly build up an excellent reputation over the past couple of decades. i must admit, I have never actually stayed there, although I did do a few evenings work there as a student - waiting on table and suchlike.

I suspect that they use a much higher calibre of employee these days.

Set on th edge of the lake, it combines a posh (but not overy expensive hotel) with self catering, timeshare and the 'spa experience'. Such spas seem de rigueur for all hotels in that category these days.

Friends who have stayed there have mentioned what a well run and pleseant stay they have had. Can't say fairer than that.

Unique Quality: Great for active holidays around Rutland water.

Cabins

This is a picture of the outside of our A-frame cabin. If you are planning a stay there, there are several accommodation types. Ours was a time share, so it slept six. They also have suites located within the main reception and the stable mews.
If you need a cabin, however, try to reserve number 21,22, or 23 as they are right on the water and others are back a ways. This picture is of 22, which is where we were lucky enough to stay.

Relaxing Retreat

We had spent a full day traversing the country trying to make train connections on a Sunday, which proved much harder than we had anticipated; and with our packs loaded with more than we actually needed, we were exhausted by the time that we arrived to Peterborough...only to find that the bus that was supposed to take us to our hotel had stopped running two hours earlier than we thought due to the fact that...it was Sunday.
So after an $80 Taxi ride we finally made it to the Barnsdale and it was like a shining ray of light....seriously...
Within the first 15 minutes after check-in, as we were walking on the beautiful grounds to our cabin we decided to scrap the rest of our trip and stay there instead.

Unique Quality: The Barnsdale is right on the Rutland Water and has more ammenities than you could hope for in a rural community. We had tennis courts, chip-and-put 9 hole golf course, crazy golf, pool and jacuzzi, full spa and salon, lawn bowling, movies, restaurants, biking and sailing, and much more on the grounds or very nearby.
Our cabin had a full kitchen with all the pots/pans and gadgets that you could possibly need in a week, a real bathroom with working plumbing (very nice commodity over yonder), even a bidet and jacuzzi tub.... and a huge master bedroom, with a huge bed complete with down comforters....it was nice by any standard, but especially compared to the places we had stayed in thus far on our trip.

Barnsdale Lodge

Barnsdale Lodge was originally a 17th Century farmhouse. It used to belong to the great estate of nearby Exton Park. Bedrooms which are individually designed and furnished with many antiques.
