....is in West Berkshire.
Because VT hasn't listed it under a county. Actually, it's on the border of W. Berkshire and Oxfordshire, not really a village but not really a town either. There's a Somerfield, a bank, WH Smith, charity shops etc. The River Thames flows by, and the river Pang flows through........
It's quite a pretty place actually, with good rail connections (because it's on the Oxford / London main line....commuterland). Several pleasant pubs in the centre, serving good food; 'The Swan', by the lock and weir, is mentioned in Jerome's 'Three Men in a Boat' and is very popular on sunny weekends (including with people who arrive by boat).
There are lots of ducks, geese and other waterbirds to feed by the river (beware the aggressive teenage cygnets!) and easy walking alongside.
Several good walks start from here, including one to Goring along the riverbank (easy to get the train back). Goring has a couple of good pubs too. And beechwoods are available for exploring...........
Whitchurch-on-Thames, just over the toll bridge, has a massive alpacca farm. Which is a bit weird for England, but rather nice. I like alpaccas. They squeal in a rather appealing way when they are doing the adolescent-chasing-thing.
To see them, walk over the toll bridge and take the second right; they are about half a mile down the road, on your right, entirely unmissable. There's a vineyard almost opposite too...............
