Travelodge: Not so good really
Great coverted building but the rooms were in poor condition. Not sure what knd of people come to Preston but we were on our way to Blackpool and with all the promotions tl have we sagged here for 14 quid. Parking was crazy lol the satll were tiny. Preston itself is quite grim but we didn't stay for long. Probably wouldn't stay here again but it's ok if you just need somewhere to crash.

The Park Hotel, Ashton-on-Ribble: Small friendly hotel in Preston's 'Villadom'
If you want to avoid the national hotel chains that smell of carpet cleaner and gravy, then The Park Hotel might be perfect for you! It is not in the city centre, but there are several bus routes nearby and the hotel has plenty of carparking space. The Ashton area is tranquil with many of Preston's large Victorian villas nearby. There are shops and a park around the corner and several pubs within walking distance.
The hotel is located in an impressive villa (dating from 1903) with original stained glass windows and its own turret. It has a large airy breakfast/dining room which acts as a restaurant during the week. The larger guest bedrooms are located in the main house while the single rooms can be found in a modern extension to the rear of the building. However, the room I stayed in was very tastefully decorated, with all the facilities you would need for a home-from-home - tea, coffee, iron, hairdryer, colour TV. They apprently have free wi-fi for your laptop computer.
The downsides are few - the hotel is busy during the working week with business travellers. As a consequence it is much quieter during the weekend and the restaurant is only open Monday to Thursday. Breakfast is also quite late at the weekend, 9-10am, though they were happy to open at 8.30am when I asked. The breakfast was delicious, though there was not a vegetarian option (unless you just has egg and mushrooms!).
All in all a very friendly and comfortable place, inexpensive too - I paid 45 GBP for a single room.
