The Dorset Arms: Best of Recommendations for Wallsend

For our last night we opted to stay in Wallsend rather than head back into Newcastle to celebrate successfully completing the walk
We chose to stay at another Pub, The Dorset Arms, This turned out to be yet another excellent choice !!
Two of us shared two en-suite rooms, The rooms were functional and simply furnished and we all thought the price of £29 per person was very reasonable.
We received a friendly welcome and took our evening meal in the bar which was tasty, Substantial and very reasonably priced.
The next morning we all went down for breakfast, a continental one was included in the price but the Landlord upgraded this to a Full English at No Extra Cost !!
Good transport links to Newcastle as the main coast road which has lots of busses is less than a 5 minute walk and the Finishing / Starting point of Hadrian’s Wall is less than a mile away, so about a 15 minute walk !!
Booking was simple and friendly, a £30 deposit sent off to secure our booking

I would give The Dorset Arms the Best of Recommendations for anyone seeking accommodation for either their First or Last day when walking Hadrian’s Wall

The Big Lamp Brewery & Keelman's Lodge: What better choice for 4 thirsty lads :-)

Some people may think that The Big Lamp Brewery & Keelman's Lodge was an unusual choice of accommodation for people walking Hadrian’s wall – But we all thought it was Superb – What better choice for 4 thirsty lads than staying in a Brewery :-)
Only about ½ mile off the route, we chose an en-suite three bedded room at £74.50 (Breakfast Not included) with one person staying in a single room.
The three bedded room was in an annex opposite the Brewery and was spacious and well furnished
We also took our evening meal in the large bar / restaurant at The Big lamp Brewery and we all thought that the food was excellent and the prices very fair – The next morning we again opted for our usual Full English Breakfast, again this was Excellent and priced fairly.
Booking was simple and friendly, a £10 deposit sent off to secure our booking

Greencarts Farm: Another Excellent Choice.

Greencarts Farm was another Excellent Choice.
Just over ½ mile off the route and easy to find this ia a working farm which has also diversified into providing accommodation offering B+B, Camping as well as a bunkroom
We opted for B+B accommodation and Two of us shared two Large comfortable en-suite rooms, The rooms were nice and well furnished and we all thought the price of £30 per person was Incredibly reasonable.
Evening meals are also available and as the nearest Pub was 2 miles away in Chollerford we took this option – It proved to be a good choice as the meals were tasty, Substantial and reasonably priced, The cook also had a supply of canned near to help wash our meal down :-)
Booking was simple and friendly, a £20 deposit sent off to secure our booking

Burnhead B+B: The Nicest welcome we received on the entire route

The Nicest welcome we received on the entire route was at Burnhead.
This really is a Delightful Bed and Breakfast Right on the route, In fact the building was probably constructed from stones taken off Hadrian’s wall which is right next to it – So you couldn’t find a handier B+B to stay !!
As soon as we got in the owners put the kettle on, made us all a cup of tea with a piece of fruitcake – They had also had the forethought to book us a table for dinner at the nearby Milecastle Inn.
Two of us shared two comfortable en-suite rooms, The rooms were nice and well furnished and we all thought the price of £35 per person was very reasonable.
The next morning we were served with an Excellent Full English breakfast which set us up for the day – This was just as well as there wasn’t any opportunities to buy lunch, so you might wish considering buying yourselves a packed lunch !!
Booking was simple and friendly an no deposits were required

Night 3) Low Rigg farm Walton, Near Brampton: Handy for the route

½ mile north of the route and fairly easy to find.

Two of us shared two twin none-en-suite rooms, The rooms were nice and comfortable but we all thought the price of £35 per person was a little over the top.

Working farm run by busy young couple, Nice Old Farmhouse - The welcome was Ok and the Full English Breakfast was fine.

A £35 deposit was required to secure the booking.

No evening meals are available and it is a 3 mile taxi run into Brampton which is the nearest place available for food as the Centurion Inn (Local Pub) is now closed

Night 2) The Angus House, Stanwixs Carlisle: Excellent Choice for Carlisle

½ mile north of the route and easy to find.

Three of us shared a large Comfortable 3 bedded en-suite family room with all facilities at a very reasonable £65 for the room including an Excellent Full English Breakfast. Our 4th Member had to splash out for a single room, although it was more expensive it was very nice !!

Booking was simple and friendly with credit card details sent to secure the booking.
Evening Meals are also available at extra cost but we opted to eat in the pub opposite.
Normally there is free internet access available for guests but unfortunately this wasn’t working when we stayed

Ideal Choice for your 1st night’s accommodation.
On The route
Four of us shared a large 4 bedded en-suite family room at a very reasonable £25 per person per night including an Excellent Full English Breakfast.
Booking was simple and friendly with a £10 deposit sent to secure the booking.
I also left my car here for the duration of the walk and there was No Extra charge made for this !!
Substantial Evening Meals are also available at reasonable cost
Highly Recommended

Our Choices of palces to Stay

The Following Tips are of the places that we chose to stay during our walk, Initially there were 3 of us walking the route and then a fourth member decided to come with us. As I had booked up the accommodation early he was able to find a bed in the same places for the entire route !!
I chose our accommodation based both on price and handiness to the route, but as I have already mentioned, Accommodation Is Limited, especially during the central sections of the route so I would Strongly Advise you too book up as soon as possible.
By-and-Large all the accommodation that we chose was walker friendly and in my Write-Ups I will include “Friendly Welcomes”

Gamescleuch CL.: What a Place.........

The most amazing Caravan Club CL we have ever been on, scenically.
Out in the middle of nowhere in the Ettrick Valley, we had 26 acres of spectacular countryside to find the perfect pitch. There was a flat area which we opted for and then the rest of the site was built on a hill, overlooked by the forest.
Within the site was a small, man-made loch with a rowing boat from which you could fish and also the river ran through the bottom of the grounds.I think you had to buy a permit for trout fishing.

No facilities apart from a tap and chemical toilet emptying point but wow, the situation!!! You could walk up into the woods behind and find yourself in a clearing, looking down onto the site, spectacular scenery all around. There were even the ruins of a tower on the site to explore.
This place was very secluded and out on a limb so wonderfully quiet. Perfect.

Unfortunately, this site seems to have closed as a CL. which is disappointing.
