More about Barony Castle
Autunm at Barony Castle
We spent a long weekend at the Barony Castle Hotel at the beginning of November and had the most relaxing weekend in a long, long time. Accommodation was great, food even better and the staff really went out of their way to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. We were lucky to catch the grounds and surrounding countryside in their full Autunm colours, quite spectacular !
We would highly reccommend it and can't wait to get back.
Absolutely Wonderful Place ---- A Must Stay!!
My Fiancee and I stayed here for two nights in November this year. Having booked Barony Castle for our wedding reception next year we decided to visit and preview the venue. I dont think we could have found a nicer place. From the staff who treated us like family, to the food which was incredible (the best steak I've ever had!). Barony Castle is just wonderful. The atmosphere within the Castle is really laid back and the grounds make for a beautiful romantic setting. We can't say enough good stuff about this place, we would highly recommend a stay here and we will definitely be returning for a further stay ourselves early in the new year.
Had a fantastic stay at Barony Castle, staff were very pleasant and cheerful. Loved the welcome drink on arrival, very warm welcome. We booked a 2 night deal and ate at Barony the first night. Food was great, the second night we went to Peebles and had a pleasant meal at the Green Tree.
Loved the pool and fitness centre.
We had a lovely relaxing weekend and would definatley recommend and we will be back.
Loved this Hotel
From the moment we arrived we were welcomed with a Welcome Drink, outstanding service which made our stay so special. From management to staff they were amazing. The first time we have experienced this service, The restaurant and food was fantastic. The room we had was cozy and everything we needed. Very close to Peebles which is a lovely town and not too far from Edinburgh making it very central. Thank you Barony Castle we will be back!!
Conference Let Down
Stayed 2 nights at Barony Castle while attending conference as the organiser. The hotel let us down on several points and did not deliver on things which had been agreed. Several delegates complained about rooms - in particular that some are quite a hike to get to. Breakfast service was very slow and inattentive. Bar was closed in the evening without warning even though both delegates and other residents were still drinking. Free tea/coffee was appreciated though actually provided for ambulance school. Decor a little shabby throughout. Room rate pretty high considering how far away this is from Edinburgh.
Fantastic weekend! My 40th Birthday was in middle of March this year,
as a treat and surprise I was sent with my husband,to Barony Castle for a present.
This place rocks! What a beautiful castle surrounded in the most fairytale setting. From the minute we arrived we were welcomed,by the most friendly and warm staff. Our room was beautiful and the meals we had during our stay were top class.
Special thanks must go to Susan, HR who couldn't do enough for us,and the diningroom staff (esp.Louise!) who greeted us both so warmly. We will return!
I took my girlfriend for a 2 night stay on a fantastic 2 night package. From the moment we arrived to when we left was just a lovely experience. We were offered a welcome drink on arrival and a smiling friendly receptionist . I asked to be upgraded when we booked and have to say our bedroom was lovely with a jacuzzi bath and nice decor. We ate on the first night and have to say the food and atmosphere in the dining room was perfect. Breakfast was excellent too (Plenty choice). Our lunch at Malmaison was delicous and as we were a bit full at night for another meal we used the Room Service menu with plenty choice. We certainly will return.
A Lovely weekend in the Scottish Borders
We had a wonderful two days in a real Scottish Border Castle set in its own lovely grounds, as we had our large German shepherd dog with us it was great just to go out and browse round the woods and look at the waterfall. After which we could go and have coffee at the coffee point at any time of the day and sit in the lounge which was very relaxing and you always got a lovely warm welcome from all the staff from the G.M. down. They always had time to stop and have a quick chat to make sure everything was as we would like. Our dog was made so very welcome and we did not feel as though she was in the way at all. We had dinner one night which was excellent, 3 courses, with just the right amount of food and on the second night we were at the B B Q which was in the walled garden that was a lovely relax night and everyone, guest and staff were very friendly . Breakfast was an experience not to be missed husband enjoyed the porridge with the whisky chaser! Our bedroom was in one of the turrets which gave it the feeling of the old castle that it is, there was plenty of room for dog ( we did not feel as though we had been put in the Dog Room --Travel lodge style) My husband and I enjoyed ourselves so much we are going back next month to help me recuperate from a stay in hospital---can't wait nether can the dog.
First class conference venue
I facilitated a large conference at this hotel on 9/10 November and the service was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who supported us in every way possible. From conference room layouts to ceilidh and evening meal, from last minute photocopying to a considerate and unscheduled cup of tea for a trainer arriving early they were the very best in professionalism and customer care. I would recommend this place to anyone and will certainly use it again.
Comfortable but not exquisite
My husband and I stayed in this hotel recently.
Upon arrival you are greeted with a stunning affair. The extensive grounds (that we explored in the morning) were tremendous. There is also an odd attraction. A giant scale model of Scotland built in the Second World war by Polish soldiers. It has fallen into disrepair but is supposedly being renovated.
It was a very peaceful stay. The staff were polite and friendly but distracted as there were 2 large Christmas parties going on at the time. We were, gratefully, allocated a room on the third floor and appeared to have been done so to prevent us from being woken up.
We ate in the restaurant and the food was delightful. It was a set menu at £21 for 3 courses. Despite the huge parties going on, we were dealt with by friendly and attentive waiters and the food was ideal (Beef Wellington was particularly good). The breakfast too was substantial and delicious (cooked and continental).
The swimming pool was deserted (great for us) and we enjoyed the sauna. There was also a well equipped gym.
Here is what is stopping me from giving this hotel an "excellent" rating.
1) No room service and when we asked if we could take our bar drinks upstairs we were given a "quizzical" look before a nod!! Not exactly sticking with luxury castle!
2) The staff seemed genuinely unaware of the history- they had no idea about the giant man-made model of Scotland outside, except one who said it had been made "hundreds of years ago".The hotel genuinely didn't seem to want to celebrate it's history- Polish soldiers staying here at the end of the Second World War and building a scale map of Scotland in the grounds to organise a possible defence to German invasion-selling point to some???
3) The rooms were very "Travel lodge". No pictures of "stags in the glen" or any real sense of where you were staying. What a missed opportunity. I am a full blooded Scot so don't need the Tartan attack but the hotel but a "castle feel" would be nice- no roaring log fires, mahogany wood or anything like!
So a stunning hotel, little lacking in character, but good wholesome food and comfort. If you want a bit more personality and want a stay that will imprint on the memory then look closer to Edinburgh.
