Fishing the Lake of Menteith
by stevezero
Fishing is available on the lake of Menteith from motor powered boats. I believe it is trout that is fished for.
Even if you don't catch then the views are still spectacular!
Boats are available to hire from the Port of Menteith. about 18kms North West of Stirling
Doune Castle
by Skibbe
Just a short drive northwest of Stirling in the town of Doune, this is a well-preserved, relatively quiet 14th century castle whose claim to fame is more recent: it was the setting for scenes from "Monty Python and the Holy Grail." That had a lot to do with me coming here and most others. You can go to the top and yell at "sons of silly persons" in your worst French accent and they'll even give you coconut shells at the ticket counter.

Althogh Incmahome is best known for the priory, it is still a nice place to wander amidst the peace and tranquility of the island.
There are nise walks and wildlife to be seen.

All Dead

Just under the Castle, an escape is possible to the peace of the Valley Cemetery. In past times, apparently, the site of jousting tournaments, and markets.
The view is from the old Kirkyard with a memorial to the martyr Margaret of the Solway (I think) to the right and the Star Pyramid to the left. The Castle is behind.
Views from Stirling Castle
by lou31
This castle was as castles go 'very nice'. It had the most spectacular views in all directions. The day was fine except for a shower or two and the views of Stirling and the countryside were amazing. Everything was so green! Even if you aren't into castles it's worth going just to get some good photos.
I was intrigued by how high up we were. I'll have to find out what height the castle is. It's like looking down from an aeroplane.
