The remains of the cathedral are the largest in Scotland. The precinct walls are particularly well preserved.
In side the Cathedral ground is a museum that houses a collection of early and later medieval sculpture and other relics found on the site, including the St Andrews Sarcophagus of Pictish date.
The St Rule's Tower, was built in the early 12th century.
Entry to the cathedral grounds is free, though access to the visitors' museum and St. Rule's Tower requires a fee or membership in Historic Scotland.
St Andrews is Scotland's first University and the third oldest in the UK. In 1423 golf was a popular sport here.
Students come from around the world to attend this famous university and I bet golf is one of the reasons.
In it’s musuem you will see many art collections include oil paintings, water colors and prints. They also posses a fine silver collection of medieval maces and silver medals form 1618-1754
Description:
During reconstruction work on the Abbey church in the early 19th century, workmen came across the skeleton of a man in a stone coffin, wrapped in a gold cloth. This was later proven to be that of Robert the Bruce, King of the Scots.
His body was re-interned and a brass plaque, near the pulpit, marks his grave
St. Andrews is located in the Kingdom of Fife in Scotland. For anyone with any knowledge of golf, St Andrews is the mecca of golf. People have been playing golf here since the 16th century. The Open Championship will be here in 2005.
The town was orignially founded around its equally famous university. Prince William, grandson of Queen Elizabeth and heir to the throne is currently attending.
Additionally there is ruins of a castle and ruins of a grand cathedral here too.
