Travel Tips for Aberdeen

Weather in Aberdeen...

by stancho

Doesn't make any difference, unless you want to go to the highlands - in this case I would recommend a backpack... Please keep in mind that the weather in Aberdeen is unpredictable and can change within minutes. Make sure you take wind and rain protection with you, during the winter months a beannie or something else to protect you ears - the wind can be verrrry cold! On the other hand you can also have really nice weather, no wind or rain, just sunshine! Supply as in every european town else, just note that if you are not an UK resident, things might be cheaper in your hometown, due to the strong Pound Stirling.
Medicine however is available in supermarkets, corner shops or shopping malls and quite cheap. The beach and the esplenade are hot spots in the summer.

Fishing Village

by foxie

Just around the corner from the docks you can find this amazing little fishing villiage that gives you a better glimpse of how some of the older Aberdoanians might have lived. A far cry and nice break from the industrial build-up that has taken place but a few blocks away. Reminds you that progress comes and goes, but sometimes traditions are just as important.

Fab cocktails

by TracyG about Revolution

This is currently my favourite place to head after work for dinner and a wee drink, but is also extremely funky as a place to come for a night out. They always have cool music and a good atmoshere and the cocktails really are fab, if a little pricey. Smart casual on Friday and Saturday nights, any other time you will be fine in trainers.

Thai at its best...

by TracyG about Royal Thai Restaurant.

Great quality Thai food and a great place to eat out with friends. I love all Thai food, but my favourite dish from here is the Poussin Volcano. Whcih is stir fried chicken with baby sweetcorn, chilli, garlic and spicy sauce.

Education - Salvation - Damnation

by scottishvisitor

Three important buildings stand shoulder to shoulder in Aberdeen's Rosemount district known locally as Education, Salvation and Damnation. The first is the Central Library (Education) a fine building constructed with Kemnay granite, a local stone from bygone quarries. The library has an interesting archive section which can be viewed by appointment. The second picture gives some idea of Central Library's size & its sparkling granite in the sunshine.
