ALL FALL DOWN

Bad (2.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on April 30, 2015

I have stayed at Copthorne Hotels across the UK for 20 years. I have always been able to count on them having superior locations and bedrooms. Overall the Copthorne Hotels are excellent. This isn’t one of them. The first thing I noticed was how shockingly small my room was. I kept tripping over my suitcase. This is the first time I have experienced this inside one of their hotels. Then I went to wash my face and use a towel to dry. Except the towel rail and my clean towels fell down on the floor. The really weird thing was that there was something blue on the walls. I realised it was a material called ‘Blue Tac’. This is used to put posters or other sorts up paper up on walls. You might find this in a meeting room. It was never intended to repair and/or join 2 pieces of metal holding up the weight of towels. Then I noticed there were a few other things that had been repaired in the room in a similar manner. Seriously. If I ran a 4-star hotel and the handyman (every hotel has one) had performed this sort of repair – it would be his last day of work.

Anyway, the bed sucked as well. It sagged in the middle and was less than comfortable. Not impressed. The walls were paper thin, probably put in when they made the rooms this small. I also found other little things broken, like several drawers in the room. Do they not check things when the clean the rooms daily? I was shocked at this below standard offering from Copthorne.

I emailed the manager the next day and he wrote me back saying he would look into it. I never heard from him again. I average 1 hotel stay a night every week of the year. Stupid. He could have probably bought me off with a room upgrade and a single beer.

I cannot recommend this Copthorne. It is not up to muster.

It should really be up to this standard:
