Travel Tips for Aberdeen

Handy luggage

by AC1

Depending on what kind of travelling mode you are doing, it is in general no particular restriction on luggage sizes or weight. The airport is also very safe and clean, no particular need for hard case luggage or whatsoever.

Go for a walk on the golf course

by scottishvisitor

Although the Golf Club is for members only, you have the right to walk here if you wish. I don't play golf but often walk on the course with my dog (you must clean up after them if they foul the grass or paths). The access law is different in Scotland than in England and Wales - here you have the right to walk on most land. A pleasant, if somewhat dangerous place, watch out for the stray golf balls, stick to the paths, enjoy the sea air and the great views. The club house is very modern and has the best views of the beach, we sometimes come here for a meal on a staff night out, it is no problem for non members to visit = most members will be happy to sign you in as their guest = just ask.

"Go For The Banquet Meals If You Need Variety"

by janettepang about Royal Thai Restaurant

This is a Thai restaurant with a nice ambience, & quite nice decor.

The owners & manager of the restaurant aren't Thai, but the Head Chef & most of the cooks & kitchen helpers are Thai (the Head Chef & his wife who cooks there are Thai born Chinese so apart from savouring somewhat authentic Thai cuisine, you can also have a Chinese meal there).

Don't attempt to try speaking to simply any waiter/waitress at the restaurant in Thai as only a few of them are actually Thai - most of the Thais work in the kitchen.

Go for the Banquet Sets at the back of the menu if you would like to try a different selection of food from the restaurant - it is also a better option if you intend to eat more, & it's more cost effective that way if you're dining for 2 or more. If you're going it alone, a la carte is your only option. You may also swap the options given in the sets for something else if you prefer (e.g. prawns for beef, a different dish, etc.).

This restaurant is known for its good customer service, but if you, like many others who enjoyed the service & want to leave a tip; it is better to leave cash than to sign it off for gratuity on your card because the waiting staff only gets tips divided from the cash. You don't seriously have to tip if you don't want to as service charge is always included in the bill. This restaurant is popular for several dishes:
- Crispy Aromatic Duck (highest popularity)
- Butterfly King Prawns
- Chilli King Prawns
- Tom Yum Koong soup
- Honey Chilli Chicken
- Honey Chilli King Prawns
- Homok Talay
- Royal Thai House Platter
- Mushroom Volcano
- Chuchi
- Grilled Seabass
- Chicken With Green Curry
- The desserts (my favourite is Bannoffee merengue)

Those are some of my favourite dishes from the 'popular dishes of Royal Thai' list & they must have some good to be so popular - I think it is the best for Thai food in Aberdeen .. but for better food & authenticity, then of course Thailand is your best option :-)

Aberdeen Maritime Museum - Free & 5 Star

by scotlandscotour

This is a great wee place, helping you understand the fishing and then the oil industry, so important to the lives and deaths of so many Scots locally.

Its a really wonderful place, and deserves its accolade of 5 stars, so do try to give it atleast an hour. It'll help you 'feel' and understand the area - and appreciate it.

Try to see these wee museums along the East Coast, in places like Anstruther and Fraserburgh (Fishing & Lighthouses, respectively) - they don't take much time, are easily overlooked, but really help you 'see' and 'feel' an area. So, if in doubt, stop, and check 'em out!

Salvation

by scottishvisitor

St. Marks is the second building in the Rosemount trilogy. This Church started its Salvation as the South Parish Church built in 1892. Later on in 1972 the Church merged with two other local Churches namely Union East & Belmont Church creating a new name - St. Marks. The church is a classic design by the architect A. Marshal MacKenzie. St. Marks has a high dome modelled on St. Pauls in London. A. Marshal MacKenzie was the Scottish architect who also designed Australia House in London.
