Moving to Aberdeen

by AC1

Hi there,

I am about to relocate to Aberdeen this May. With a budget of 1,450 pound per month, what kind of accomodation can I get? Will that be sufficient to get a place close to the city center with 2 bedroom?

Also, with 340 pounds per month, what type of car will I be able to lease or purchase?

Any help will be very much appreciated.

Hi
For both cases you will get decent accomodation and a good car. Have you made any enquiries for accomodation or are you being put up in an hotel to begin with? That would be your better option until you got to know the area. Give me a shout if you want nos. for rental agencies. I don't live there but would be willing to help.

Hi AC1,
Dont quite know why you would want to relocate to Aberdeen, I have lived here all my life.

I currently live at the end of the main street in aberdeen, i live in a 4 bedroom flat and that costs us £980 month and £1200 year on Council Tax ( Thats something that varies depending on the area you live in )

Our flat is in good condition so you should have no problem finding a flat for the money you are willing to spend

Good luck with the move and give me a shout if you need any more help

Take it easy
Steve

Hi,

Thanks for all the information. I have gone through some property listings and should settle for Bannermill Place or West End.

Will be in town from last week of May.

Cheers,
Alan

The Broken Fiddle 2

The legend is kept alive in Banff, by a cafe of the same name. They have a huge mural depicting the events of the hanging. It is said that that the people in the mural change, to depict local people and famous Scottish celebrities. Isla St Clair takes centre stage and Billy Connelly is in there somewhere.

The beating heart of Aberdeen

by duncanlbrown

Aberdeen harbour is the commercial centre of the city, and is a representative cross-section of the industries that make Aberdeen such a prosperous place. Take the time to walk / drive around, but be careful! Highlights of the harbour areas are:

Heritage - the old village of Footdee and the Fish Market - get up early for this
Working - Ship repair yards, fabrication yards
Docks - loading and unloading all sorts of supplies for the oil platforms
Entertainment - pubs with live music, strippers
Dining - everything from chips'n'kebabs to the Silver Darling - one of Aberdeen's poshest restaurants
Sports - Dive shops
and of course, like most harbours, the world's oldest profession plies her trade there!

Always the favorate

by AC1 about The Justice Mills

This place has been my favorate all times. Large halls, very good crowd, huge bar and definitely a good place start the night. Somehow this place seems to be "smoke free" though there are people smoking in there as the hall is so huge.... you virtually don't feel it. Smart Casual...

Great Chinese Food

by saracen about Chi Bar & Restaurant

Don't let the name put you off - the bar is not rowdy, and is actually separated from the dining area. Access is via a lift from inside the Academy shopping centre.

The staff are friendly and attentive, the decor nice and simple.

The menu is pretty extensive which could lead to a bit of a delay in ordering... I chose Tom Yam soup which tasted very authentic, although without the usual Thai accoutrements. I then had a fabulous lemon chicken, with a very light and fragrant batter on the generous servings of chicken.

There was also a good selection of drinks, including some very tasty Chinese beers. Lemon chicken is ace!

Brig o Balgownie

This bridge over the River Don has been there since 1320.

Its in a wonderful little "hamlet" within the city - all narrow cobbled streets, old houses and cottages. You would think you are in some quiet country corner. You have Seaton Park adjoining, so that quietness adds to the Brigadoon atmosphere.

Not much visited, I think.

Well worth a mini excursion from the city centre.
