click onto www.travelodge.co.uk and look up the specific hotel on the site. From what I can see it is central and within walking distance of the harbour. The accommodation is perfectly adequate - clean and reasonably basic. You pay extra for breakfast, so it would be better to go out and find a local cafe/restaruant - unless you are on an expense account.

Travel Tips for Aberdeen

You must visit the Strathsisla...

by balfor

You must visit the Strathsisla distillery in Keith. It is only a couple of stops on the train from Aberdeen. Strathsisla distillery is part of the Chivas Brothers distilleries and is the largest whiskey that comprises Chivas Regal. My fondest memory of Aberdeen is something that could be said about every place I traveled in Scotland. The people were amazingly friendly and not at all put out by a couple of American tourists catching a glimpse of their lives and their homeland.

Sports in Aberdeen

by stancho

Aberdeen offers quite a lot possibilities to become active. You see a lot of people running, walking, skating, riding their bikes etc. along the coast promenade. Many people enjoy playing golf in Scotland, and yes, there are plenty possibilities to this in Aberdeen as well. Students and locals meet in Seaton Park daily to play Rugby or Football, just feel free to join them if you like. I saw even people surfing in January - the Scots are really tough guys! Scotland also offers Scuba Diving, yet you have to go up north for the best spots - and leave your 3mm shorty at home :-)!
The best way to enjoy sports in a passive way is to go and see a football match in the Pittodrie Stadium. The tickets are 15£ for students, 20£ regualar, the best stand is the Richard Donald stand as it offers the best view. Visit www.afc.co.uk to see when matches are on.

Iron Age Fort - Near Pennan

by stevezero

About 4 kms from Gardenstown is the site of an iron age fort. It can be found on a peninsular just of the B9031 road before you get to Pennan
From the peninsular there is a great view of Pennan village nestling under the cliffs

Turn left at sign for fort, just before Pennan on B9031. Short walk from car park

really top rate!!

This is a small place with a congenial atmosphere. Smart but informal.

Menu is extensive - Turkish. We only had main course and dessert, as we'd had lunch out and were having to eat dinner early (6.30pm) due to the place being fully booked later on. It was busy already when we got there, to the point where the 2 table staff were struggling a bit. However, 4 more arrived at 7, and all went well (very well actually) on the service side.

Food was superb all round! My friend is Turkish and she loved her dish (Balik Izgara - monkfish and prawns on a skewer). My son had Firinda Karides - prawns in a tomato sauce with feta cheese, and he was happy!

My dessert (Karistik Turk Tatli - typical Turkish dessert, to you & me) was great, especially the pistachio ice cream.

I was left wishing we'd had the meze with a slurp of raki...next time.

Highly recommended, but book well in advance for the weekend. £75 for 3 people - 3 main courses + 3 desserts, but no alcohol. Biberli Kuzu - lamb marinaded in peppercorns in a spicy sauce, served with rice/pine nuts. Spicy but not too much, very tender meat. Good sized portion, but not too big.
