Travel Tips for Aberdeen

From Education to Business

by scottishvisitor

The Marischal College is the second largest granite building in the world, the largest is the Escorial in Madrid. The students have moved out of this historic and beautiful building to pastures modern and new.
Marischal College with its attatched Church will now be the new home of Aberdeen Council, their present building at St. Nicholas house will be demolished, a good thing for Aberdeen. I only hope they will not advertise in windows or on the beautiful building. The Church at the end of the college has long been a favourite with graduates weddings and I do hope this tradition continues. On a recent visit this building turned from its silver grey granite to a nice shade of pink to warm up the winter here

The most Easterly Woods in Scotland

by scottishvisitor

This is a small coastal woodland hugging the North East Coast. It is unusual because it survives the damaging effects of salt air and harsh winter winds the trees you are likely to encounter here are broad leaf trees, mainly sycamore, beach, oak and ash.
It is privately owned and some what neglected, but you are free to walk here anytime, Scotland has a right of access for anyone to any where but I do object to people using scrambler bikes and quads here, this makes for muddy condition's for walkers and does nothing for the exposed roots.
The Wood Lands Trust have been trying to get ownership in order to look after the woodland and conserve it for the future, but so far the owners have not sold the woods. I often walk my dog here in the woodlands of Cruden Bay and only hope it survives and brings pleasure to ramblers and nature lovers for years to come. I have updated some photos from my most recent walk here - Late spring into early summer sees the woods really come alive.

The best Cocktails in Aberdeen!

by Sharna. about The Blu Bar

The Blu Bar is a trendy bar. They have themed nights where the bar maids get around in bikinis and occasionally have something crazy like a jumping castle!

They make fantastic cocktails. Some are lethal, so watch what they put in. The music varies, from R'n'B & Hip Hop to alternative, soft rock & pop. They have some fairly cheap drink deals, just get a flyer from one a their staff and check it out. Smart casual

Mexican's head North East

by scottishvisitor about CHIQUITO

A fun restaurant & bar with a good Mexican feel - FIESTA NIGHTS ARE A LOT OF FUN HERE but you have to imagine the sunshine Anything Mexican the hotter the better.
Have a nice cold Mexican Beer - at Aberdeen prices.

St. Machar's Cathedral - the interior

by tini58de

The interior is pretty impressive! The stained windows are fairly new, nevertheless truly beautiful. What is special about this cathedral is the wooden ceiling with three rows of coat of arms on it:

The first row commemorates the popes, the second row the kings and the third row the bishops....

Our guide pointed out to us that the English king came in fourth.... Still, the carvings are beautiful!
