Travel Tips for Banchory

a nice Scottish town

by uglyscot

For several weeks I used to take the train on weekdays from Aberdeen to Banchory, which is about 20 miles west of Aberdeen. During the journey I managed to knit several pairs of gloves and bootees for the baby I was expecting at the time, and found my fellow passengers friendly enough to give advice when I was trying to turn the heels! I was doing teaching practice at the high school there, so I saw little of the town apart from the railway station and the school. I remember the students were politer and better behaved than those in the Aberdeen schools I taught at.

Banchory is a good place from which to explore Royal Deeside - the Castles of Crathes and Drum are not far away, and the River Dee is a pleasant spot to have a picnic.
