Travel Tips for Banff

Come to Church & sing a joyful hymn

by scottishvisitor

Found this old Methodist Church which carries the famous name Wesley (John & Charles)
John was a preacher & Charles a Hymn writer = Charles is the famous one ie. no one really listens to preachers!!

White to Blue & back to White

by scottishvisitor

If you saw the film, Local Hero made in 1983, you just might recognise this Hotel. The Pennan Inn has changed its colour back to white (after being a harsh shade of blue for a time) The white colour is much in keeping with the single row of houses in the village.

Every tourist comes to see the Phone Box

by scottishvisitor

I couldn't find the telephone box at first but knew it was there somewhere - Pennan really is a tiny place. Ureka telephone box found - hiding behind a parked lorry!!
You might want to call home from here - just to report that you got down the torturously steep & narrow road without mishap.

Lovely little granite bridge

by scottishvisitor

Just loved the little old bridge spanning the tiny stream as it surfaced from the cliffs above then disappeared underground to make its way to the sea.
This was difficult to photograph as houses have been build in fornt of this lovely scene

Great Defences of the Past

by scottishvisitor

We saw an information sign for Fort Fiddes when leaving Pennan - so decided to follow the road (dirt track). The knowl is surrounded on three sides by water & joined to the mainland by a narrow strip of land thus making it a perfect defence post. Cullykhan began its defence as a late bronze age refuge, later an iron age citadel then in 3,000 a pictish fort.
