More about The Lovat, Loch Ness Hotel
My husband and I stayed at the Lovat Arms Hotel for a long weekend away from it all 8-11 November. This was our first time there and it certainly was a hit with both of us. Lovely room and huge bathroom (deluxe double), wonderful service from the welcoming staff, reception lounge with log fire to sit in front of with a dram or aperitif, nice bar. The food was great, both in the evening (fabulous frozen chocolate souffle) and the breakfast was all you could ask for - continental buffet with all sorts of prepared fruits, cold meats and cheese, and many options for a cooked (or alternative) breakfast - the fish dishes and waffle were wonderful. We have stayed at a number of other similar hotels and the Lovat Arms is by far the best so far and good value for money too (late bookings are cheaper, we did DB&B). The hotel has just completed refurbishment so a bit of touching up and tweaking was ongoing but did not detract from our stay. We fully intend to go back next year!
Great Scottish Experience
We stayed at the Lovat Arms for three days over Christmas. It was very quiet during this time with only a few guests booked into the hotel. The staff were wonderful and very helpful and never said "no" to any of our requests. The rooms were large with equally large bathrooms and were furnished very tastefully. A special effort was made for the benefit of the three small children in our party plus another guest with a little girl. On Christmas morning there was evidence on the carpet that Santa had desended down the chimney, walked over to the snack left for him and exited through the front door. The children were just besides themselves with excitement.
The breakfasts were just beautiful in the dining room that overlooked the town and Loch Ness. We had booked Christmas Dinner at the hotel and it was just gorgeous. All four courses were above average and everyone enjoyed it immensly.
We didnt want to leave this hotel and would thoroughly recommend it. The little town of Fort Augustus is delightful also and much prettier than Fort William and if you are considering a holiday in this area, seriously consider Fort Augustus and the Lovat Arms Hotel.
Comfy rooms and great food
Stayed at the Lovat Arms for 3 nights, arrived after a 7.5 hr drive from the Midlands to a very warm welcome. The room was huge with a great bathroom and very peaceful. The food was lovely and nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. Visited the local area and will definetely return and recommend to friends.
Had a Very Nice Stay
Enjoyed out stay at the Lovat Arms and thought Ft. Augustus was a charming little town. Room was very nice--especially loved the huge bathroom that included a television! The service was excellent--the owners made a point to greet us by name throughout our stay and were there for anything we could possibly need. Food (both breakfast and dinner) was very good--and we enjoyed the atmosphere of the lounge for drinks. Overall an extremely attentive staff, charming hotel and a wonderful stay!
Very nice hotel well renovated, lots of "eco" features. Good food and quick service. Only compliant would be heating which cannot be controlled from the room. Each evening the room was like a furnace, even with the windows open, stayed very warm all night, too hot for me to sleep, but a bit cool by the morning when you wanted it to be warmer!
Hogmanay - "Loved it at the Lovat"!
We spent three nights at The Lovat Arms to celebrate Hogmanay, and this was our second visit to the hotel. The rooms are excellent and the staff worked extremely hard to make it a wonderful experience for all the guests. The food was also excellent and extra activities were arranged to keep us busy - a boat trip on Loch Ness (but no sightings of Nessie, unfortunately!), tarot readings, massages and a magician to keep us entertained during a wonderful buffet dinner on New Year's day. Spectacular fireworks welcomed in the New Year for the guests and the locals!
Staff were really friendly and caring and we were made to feel "at home".
A Disappointing Stay
I stayed here with elderly parent for three nights DB&B between Christmas and New Year. This was so nearly a very good break but failed to impress in a number of areas which could very easily have been improved. We shared a twin room and the room itelf was fine but the ensuite bathroom had not been re-stocked with toiletries. When it was there was only one set. When I queried this afterwards I was told that this was deliberate and was to save waste. Green or mean? It certainly felt like the latter.
The food was OK but the menu did not change during the 3 nights we were there and the main menu had no vegetarian main courses. I was told that this was considered acceptabe and that vegetarians should ask for something different! Twenty years ago perhaps but in 2007? On one night we had to eat in the bar which is a not a welcoming space and we ate to the accompaniment of loud contemporary music. Also contrary to the information on the web-site lunch was not served although something could be produced on request - not the same thing.
We go away at the same time each year and felt that this hotel did not compare to others we have visited in the Highlands. The impression we were left with was that our custom was not valued as it should have been and the overall experience was definitely not value for money.
I just had a throughly enjoyable stay at the Lovat Arms, we got a very warm welcome off the friendly receptionist, the food was brilliant, very yummy!! Our room was immaculate and very comfortable, I made special requests on booking eg room with a view over Loch Ness and all these requests were met. The breakfast was brilliant - a huge choice. The staff could not do enough for us and we felt completely looked after. Would definitely recommend.
Absolutely loved the Lovat !!
I've never felt so welcome, the service and food is unbeatable! The quality of rooms are brilliant, now i'm home I really want a wet room! :o)
