Help! where can i find a public car park near Inverness castle!

by civic1500

Hi,

I am now in Inverness just checking in a b&b and will leave in tomorrow. Just want to know where can I find a public car park for my car during my visit to the castle tomorrow before I leaving. Anyone can give a hint would be much appreciated.

thanks,

The castle is in the centre and the town is all walkable. Throw it in any car park really.

THe city kind of only has 1 real municipal car park, there are private ones and short-term parking all over the place. Last time I was there I found 1 for all day and just left the car there.

HAve a great time,

All the best,

DAO

thanks for your advise. I found a big muti-storey car park there, but finally I noticed that the castle is not opened to public for visit as it has been converted to a district court for normal use of the city.

Sorry to hear. Lancaster Castle, right in that city's centre, is a working prison!

Hope you enjoyed the rest of your visit.

Travel Tips for Inverness

Daytrip: Inverness-Inverness (5/5)

by Redang

After resting in Gairloch for a while, let's go back to Inverness, but don't worry, the landscape keeps being lovely.

Leave Gairloch (first two pics) along road A 832 again, and after some 15 kms. you will find Loch Maree on your left (3rd pic); the rest of the road until junction with road A 835 is nice too. Then, road A 835 to Inverness.

Pay A Visit To Whin Adventure Park

This great children's park is situated within easy walking distance of so many great things - the Bught caravan park, the ice arena, the Aquadome indoor water park, a floral hall, and even a mini-golf course. The river Ness walk practically terminates at it's doorstep. It would be a shame to visit any of these places without seeing the park.

Paddleboats, climbing ropes, a big slide, and more adorn the big children's park that even has a working model railway with a train that makes the rounds. It's a pleasant place for a picnic or to let the kids run free.

Heart of the Highlands

"1955/56"

Thats when we moved from Inverness to Edinburgh. I was 4, so can't be precise. I remember being unhappy to move away.

It was the beginnings of my nomadic existence. By the time I was 30, I had lived in 7 different places - most in Scotland, but also in France and the USA.

The wanderlust did not come from my parents. They've moved once in those 50+ years, and that was only an 18 mile flit on retirement.

"these days"

I always look forward to re-visiting the city.

Unfortunately, recent trips have been for my son's ice hockey games and the fixtures have been set for December/January - the worst time to go, because its cold and dark and travel conditions can be tricky.

We did take in Culloden battlefield (on the outskirts) on a recent trip, but did not go into the city.

As I write this it is mid-December 08, and we're about to set off on one of those hockey trips. Staying overnight as he won't be finished until late evening, but no time for anything more than the hockey!

"future"

I should plan a long weekend there, just to "catch up" and see some of the delights in the surrounding area.
