The rooms were on the small side, but attractive, with high ceilings. The room heaters were not quite up to the job, but the down comforters made up for it and kept me warm. I like historic hotels with a sense of place, rather than one that seems 'generic.'
The hotel’s pub has music on weekends, and the band was excellent the night I was there.
I would recommend it as a good place to stay.
Unique Quality: One of the best things about the hotel is its location—it is on the river, and the castle is on the opposite bank. There is a nice walking path along the river, just across the street from the hotel. Walking across the nearby bridge takes you to the shops as well as up to the castle.
The Columba rates itself as a 4 star Hotel, it is 2 at best. This hotel along with the Ramada cater to the tour bus trade.
the best thing that can be said is the location is excellent for exploring Inverness. It is close to the Mustard Seed which is a must do restaurant. Additionally it is very clean. The breakfast is good.
The beds, you are better sleeping on the floor. However stuff a towel under the door to block the hallway light. The rooms all need updating and maintenance.
I would recommend the Best Western or one of the local Guest Houses
