Accomodations are available at various rates in all parts of Scotland. Wherever we travelled, there was a 'Vacancies' sign here and there. It is partially accounted for by a significant fall of tourism during the past two months. So, in my opinion, it will not be a problem to get accomodation even if not reserved in advance. However, it is always better to reserve.
Unique Quality: The hotel I stayed in is within 5 minutes from the Edinburgh Castle by bus or 30 on foot. It was nice, cosy, with English breakfast which I don't like, but generally it was not bad. I paid 47 pound for a single. It was offseason however.
Directions: Use the map: you can walk there from the center or take a bus
