Amaragua Guest House

Small, beautifully appointed and very clean guest house in the South of Edinburgh. Owned by a lovely couple who do great job looking after their guests - don't miss their excellent Scottish breakfast. All rooms are individually decorated. Great value, too.

Unique Quality: Again, great hospitality of the owners!

Wonderful and friendly

I had a wonderful single room with sink and a private bathroom (all mine) just down the hall at a very reasonable rate. The room and guest house were immaculate and very well maintained. The breakfast was delicious and served with a good side of converstaion with the owner. Tony and Dawn were so helpful and their Dalmatian, Sendai, could sense how much I missed my dog and cat, and gave me a couple kisses every day. The location was excellent - away from the tourist area but very close to major bus routes. I was able to catch buses to every place I went and I never had to transfer once. All the bus stops were within a few minutes walk and Dawn knew precisely which bus to take to get to the right place. I'm sold on Scottish hospitality and don't want to stay at an impersonal hotel ever again.

More about AmarAgua Guest House

Cozy and Charming Christmas

by TripAdvisor Member JoyceNH

Based on all the excellent reviews on Trip Advisor my husband and I chose the AmarAgua Guest House for our Christmas holiday in Edinburgh and we were not disappointed. One of the draws was that they were serving Christmas dinner so we got our daughter and her friend to cancel their stay at a hostel and to stay at the AmarAgua with us so we could have Christmas dinner together. What a wonderful and fantastic holiday we had! My husband and I had a beautiful and large room on the second floor with a lovely tiled bathroom. Our daughter had a similarly large room on the 3rd floor with a beautiful bathroom.
We had just come from a fantastic 4 star hotel in London and were concerned that we would be disappointed in the transition from hotel to guest house but our worries were unfounded. Tony and Dawn-Ann were the most amazing hosts and we felt at home right away. As guests, we were probably a bit of a pain, but Tony and Dawn-Ann just made us feel so comfortable no matter what we asked of them.
Breakfast every day was delicious, including the haggis (try it!) and Christmas dinner was wonderful and accompanied by traditional crackers and Tony’s innate ability to make everyone feel comfortable.
The neighborhood is quiet but only a 20 minute walk to the center of Edinburgh and the bus stop is seconds away and a 10 minute ride into town. Cabs are also quite reasonable and take about 10 minutes.
We were sad to leave and although we didn’t have the opportunity, we would have told Dawn-Ann and Tony that if they ever come to New Hampshire, they are welcome to stay with us!

Wonderful and Warm

by A TripAdvisor Member

We visited Edinburgh in December 2004 and stayed at the AmarAgua Guest House for 3 nights. Tony and Dawn-Ann gave us a very warm welcome and made our short stay in Edinburgh a pleasent and a wonderful experience.

It is near one of the main bus routes so it was very easy for us to travel to and from the guest house using public transport.

Best Place to Stay

by A TripAdvisor Member

AmarAgua Guesthouse has an excellent location, the rooms are decorated in high style and include power showers, the food is excellent, and the dining room has beautiful style.

The best part, however, is that Tony and Dawn Ann are a very nice couple and you'll wish they lived in your town so you could be their personal friend.

Tony will stay in the dining room and make you laugh and Dawn Ann is this soft spoken and sweet red haired Scottish girl who will be in the background paying close attention to how your stay is and cooking away. They're both very genuine.

To top it off, their price is very fair.

We spent Christmas there and it was the best part of our trip. Thanks to those two, we have a great memory.

Great Place to Visit

by TripAdvisor Member CRI

AmarAgua is in our top 3 B&Bs that we have stayed at. It has a great location; quiet and pleasant neighborhood 1/2 block from bus line and 10 minutes from the train station. Our bed was the most comfortable we have had, the breakfasts were great, and the hospitality of Tony and Dawn-Ann made us feel as if we were visiting old friends. We can not wait to stay with them again!

The Perfect B&B!

by A TripAdvisor Member

Amar Agua is located in a quiet neighborhood within a minutes walk of a main bus route - We couldn't believe how easy and quick it was to get to Princes Street and the Royal Mile (and everywhere else too).
The breakfast choices are great and leave you full until dinner (they also offer a "bag lunch"), and the rooms are comfortable, cozy and imaculately clean. Our room (#2) was en-suite and both the room and bathroom were perfect in every way.
The owners are so welcoming that you feel like you've known them forever, and their knowledge of the city is priceless.
Amar Agua is the perfect place to stay while you're in Edinburgh.

Gracious hosts

by A TripAdvisor Member

We found the Amar Agua guest house to have gracious hosts, beautiful rooms and wonderful breakfasts. It is conveniently located to use as a base for seeing the sights of Edinburgh. We would highly recommend it.

Great place to stay!

by A TripAdvisor Member

My husband, two teen daughters and I had the pleasure of spending 4 nights at AmarAgua Guest House in mid-March. From the moment Dawn-Ann met us at the door until both Tony and Dawn-Ann saw us safely off in our taxi, our stay was nothing but exceptional.

We had a beautifully decorated quad room with ensuite bath with a double bed and two twins. It was comfortable and extremely clean; suited us perfectly. The other open rooms we passed looked just as comfortable and clean. Breakfast was included, and we had our choice of multiple breakfast items every day which were freshly prepared when we came to the breakfast room and served with a smile and a little humor. It was a great way to start our day.

The guest house is located on a quiet street about 1-2 minutes walk from the main bus line which easily got us everywhere we wanted to go. And the price was very reasonable too.

I cannot say enough about our hosts, Tony and Dawn-Ann. They were genuinely gracious and made us feel so at home, from the minute we arrived. They were always ready and willing to answer any questions we had about sights we wanted to see, the weather, or anything else. They also made sure we had a cab when we needed it on the day we were leaving.

I highly recommend AmarAgua to anyone who is planning on visiting the Edinburgh area. You will not be sorry about your choice. There is nothing about our stay there that I would have changed.

The Best B&B We Stayed at

by A TripAdvisor Member

On our recent trip through GB, we stayed at numerous, wonderful B&Bs, but our favorite was Amar Agua. From the moment we set foot in the beautiful, comfortable, clean bedroom to the morning breakfasts where we had a choice of delicious foods, to the delightful owners, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We travelled with 3 children ages 4 to 16, and they were as warmly received as we, their parents, were. I would recommend this place to anyone.
