Not exactly "nestled at the foot of the Salisbury Crags" but you can get there in 10 minutes on foot, and have a hike with terrific views of the city. The B&B sits in a suburb, a quiet residential area on a street with other guest houses. The immediate neighborhood is not a bad place for a walk itself, and it's quiet and well-kept- lots of old stone houses and beautiful trees. If you are driving you may have to park around the block but the area seems very safe. Double decker city busses only 80m from doorstep, running frequently to downtown. Guest rooms and breakfast room bright and clean; very friendly, young owner. The place could use a few improvements in the bathrooms and a larger hot water tank, but these minor things will not alter my top rating.

Great B&B

by A TripAdvisor Member

Stayed here May 2004 on the basis of the previous reviews and was not disapointed. The hosts are friendly, the house is clean and well-kept, and the breakfast is delicious. While it may be slightly more convenient to stay on the Royal Mile, Edinburgh can get very noisy at night and this quiet neighborhood is only a short bus or cab ride away. If you like to walk, I would highly reccomend walking into town along the Salisbury Crags at least once for the beautiful views of Edinburgh.

Great B & B

by TripAdvisor Member Ward34

We stayed here for three nights in June and were very impressed. The owner was very friendly and helpful, the rooms clean and comfortable and being in the suburbs didn't detract in the slightest. It was easy to catch a bus at the bottom of the street or the walk via Holyrood was not too far. The breakfast selection was great and the food excellent. There was also internet access in the lounge which was very handy. The only small problem were the stairs to our room on the third floor - heavy cases didn't help. Thanks so much for a lovely stay!!!

Loved the Steamed Porridge!!

by A TripAdvisor Member

I loved my stay at the guest house. I was travelling to Edinburgh for a training course, but the way I was welcomed here made it feel more like a short holiday! Ross and Kathleen were full of information about the sights of Edinburgh, and made sure I got the most out of my short stay. The guest house is immaculately decorated and has all the period charm inside that you would expect from the outside. Highly recommended-the breakfasts have to be seen and tasted to be believed!! Especially the steamed porridge!

Keep up the Good Work!!

Wow!

For such a small friendly place it offers one of the best breakfast menus I have ever seen.

Amazingly quiet yet its located next to the centre of one of the most exciting cities in Europe.

I could even check my e-mail and surf the interent while relaxing on luxurious leather couches in the quaint lounge area.

I'll be back!

This is what I!!! call home

So far away from home but yet not , i was made so welcome,i was a bit nervous at first but that was turned around very quickley. This guest house has everything you could ask for ie great food great pressure showers (that i cant live without) and happy owners.
Thanks again i will be back !!!!!!

Minor Warning

by A TripAdvisor Member

Very pleasant, clean and not too far from the action of the city. One warning though, if your group consists of more than 4 people, it will be tight. We had the largest room available and my family of 5 were a little cramped. You would definitely need 2 rooms for this size of group.

by far the best!

by A TripAdvisor Member

It was a real pleasure staying in such a friendly and welcoming hotel with such warm hosts. The rooms were really nice and so much nicer than the average Edinburgh Guest house or B&B. The breakfast was amazing and more akin to a five star hotel, with an extraordinary choice of meals for such a small and intimate establishment. Russ and Kathy are great hosts. Highly recommended.

3 nights in Edinburg for 1st time !

by xsweety

Hi !

I'm going to London (2 of us) and have decided to sqeeze in 3 nights at Edinburg. A couple of Q:

1.I beleive the megabus.com seems to be the cheapest way to travel from London to Edinburg. Its costign 13 pounds per person over night. Is there any +ve or -ve feedback on this?

2.I'm looking for Cheap, budget accomodation. Checked the youth hosetels but cant seem to find anything equal to or below 20 pounds per person per night in B&B in a double room (except for dorms) Can anyone please suggest. I'm looking at 10th to 13th July.

3. which areas are good and what's a definate "No to miss" sights. We prefer nature and scenic places and love to see Castles.

Hi! I took the same bus, but all the way to inverness. It was crowded both ways, but you can't expect much for the price! The earlier you book, the cheaper your ticket. You cant exchange them, once you've paid, thats it. Also, make sure you have your ref number, they wont let you on without it.
In London, get there early. The stop is a little difficult to find, and there was a queue for seats when i went.
If you've only got a short time in Edinburgh, one of these 'jump-on, jump-off' tours of the city are good.
:)

If you like castles, don't miss the Edinburgh Castle. It's terrific as are the views from the ramparts. If you like nature and scenic things, be sure to climb up to Arthur's Seat in Holyrood Park. It is a huge chunk of pure nature right in the middle of Edinburgh. There are hiking trails and excellent views of the city and the Firth of Forth.

We had a great time just walking the streets. There are lots of parks and gardens and the Princes Street Gardens are right downtown below the castle.

The suggestion above for the hop-on hop-off tour bus is a good one. You zip around town and then decide where you want to spend your time.

Have fun.

I mostly used the Scottish Citilink bus system which was faultless. I think buses are the way to go.
The Castle Rock Hostel is a great place to stay for the money.
And finally, what I really meant to get to was activities:
if you really enjoy nature and such take a walk up Arthur's seat. great views of Edinburgh and a nice afternoon trip within the city.
